Kaspersky doesn't bog your system down like many others have been known to do in the past. I would actually pay for this product and that is saying a lot!

Avast is a complete joke, as is Panda. If you're going to bother doing antivirus and don't trust yourself to avoid running into a problem altogether then you should be running NOD32.

Edit: AVG?!? Jesus christ that's about as effective by trying to ward off viruses by putting a fluffy bunny on your monitor. Seriously.

oooh! polarized reviews with nothing backing them up. those are always the most helpful!

If you look at AMTSO, which is the industry joint testing standards org, third party test results; you would see that norton is by far the most effective out of any of the other vendors, and its not really even close, some of the above mentioned are a complete joke. No need to point fingers, just look at the best available and decide if its worth it for you to pay for.

I've never heard of eset nod32, but looking at their site, their claim of never missing an in the wild virus makes them sound ridiculous. no serious security vendor would dare make that claim to an informed consumer, its almost insulting.

If you don't visit lots of free **** sites and regularly download bit torrents, then your personal review of AV software doesn't count

Some of what you guys say is very reasonable, and true, but Ive gone through a lot of Anti-virus/anti-malware/ software. McAfee and Norton are simply the worst in my book. They are more mainstream, and do a lot of sponsoring, that is why you see their product a lot more. Just cause you see the name a lot does not mean it works well. Norton and McAfee hogs up a lot of system resources while it is running. The major viruses that I have caught, and have cleared out by myself, were from periods where I used Norton. And before you say anything, yes I did have all the virus definitions updated. They were just ****ty virus programs for those who are more advanced computer users.

I then found out about Eset Nod32, I too never heard of it before. But its by far one of the much better anti virus programs out there. I also recommend to clients/those who ask about Kaspersky. Its not too expensive either, about 60 bucks but with up to 3 different computer installs.

I also run multiple virus programs also on my computer, doesnt hurt to have one main one and other small ones for malware and adware.

Malwarebytes-AntiMalware, AVG and other small time anti-virus programs are only decent and have more short commings, especially when you are only running the free ones.

Oh well, thats my experience. Havent had any thing major happened to me since I switched to Nod32 and run multiple smaller ones in the back.

They are all essentially around the same price range, so why not get something that works better for the same price.

I've never had an anti-virus program running on a personal machine of mine. I have gotten a bad virus once - the one that looks exactly like the Windows security center and such. I was really tired, clicked on it, knew exactly what I did... I used HijackThis and MalwareBytes to clear the system, and it's still running fine now but only because I am too lazy to reload it. It's my last XP system - with one 7 machine for media, 2 7 laptops, 1 Ubuntu machine and a MacBookPro. One of the 7 laptops is my work machine, which has out company wide deployment of SEP, which of course is absolutely useless.

My aunt however gets viruses all the time, and in fact I think she is bringing her machine by again for me to have a look at it. I guess there are people that need virus protection, and people that don't. I am going to look into "ESET NOD32" for this machine...

NOD32 is your best protection, bottom line. If you'd like to prove me wrong why don't you install NOD32 on one computer and your favorite on the other, see what happens. Enjoy!

I have personally advocated for people to use everything from Symantec to norton to AVG to Panda and I have seen them ALL CATASTROPHICALLY FAIL at their jobs, although that's great for my side business as a security consultant... I actually like to secure people's systems because that gets me more return business in the long run.

Edit: I also never use antivirus on my own personal system but I keep apprised of the latest vulnerabilities and issues to keep me from having a problem.

i guess i'll have to take your word for it because the first two links on your google results were for the eset website and the third listed norton over nod32 as the best antivirus!

btw, i was just giving you **** and forgot to put a smiley face at the end of my comment. just sounded like the "mac/pc is crap...get a pc/mac" type of comment. i have no doubt nod32 is good. on the other hand, i seriously don't even know of anyone who has gotten a virus in like 4-5 years. of course i don't know of anyone who uses internet explorer either...

Internet explorer causes more virus issues than anything. Although I did have someone who got one through Chrome, I prefer firefox myself.
