You can say what you want about Shiv ($$$), but the fact remains he's known nationwide for his tuning abilities.
Forget WRXs, his first claim to fame was being an expert Electramotive systems tuner.

Shiv is a badass tuner... but i wish he was open to other things, and i wish i would support people who don't run all Vishnu. He doesn't, so i don't recommend him. Simple as that.

Shiv is a business man...he is making big $$ and I don't blame him for it. His products essentially work.
I have a Vishnu Unichip and EMI adapter - Works really well, over 10,000 miles no probs. Mine was tuned by him on his dyno though.

Vishnu is good and bad:
Good:
They reveal some of the inoformation that many others do not simply because they want to.
Evidence: The intercooler pressure drop data, boost plots of stock boost and MBC, dynos of EVERY part of Stage 0 in every combination possible, etc...
Granted this information has tapered recently, and this is less of an advantage than it used to be.
Also, they're close
They have a really nice dyno.
Bad:
They COST
Customer service seems to have declined as they've gotten so busy.
They won't tune any management but what they sell, but what tuner WILL? A tuner can't know every system known to god and man.
My own personal experience has been mixed, with good support early when he and Joel were working out of their house.
My map was causing pinging and I eventually got resolution of the issue, but it took some doing (three trips, and one dyno tune that I had to pay for).
Like anyone else there is good and bad. If Shiv didn't have the history he does, I think he would be far worse off than he is now. His status is falling, I don't think that can be doubted.
But what other options are there? I-speed? I certainly have reservations there too.

Shiv is a perfectionist first, businessman second. If Vishnu has any problen is that it they are too successful. They don't have the staff they need to handle the high demand for their excellent product and services.
Drag racing or racing in general is not his point of focus, making the best product available is.
The fact that he does not work on non-vishnu cars is his call. He has told me "dyno horror stories" of certain cars coming into his shop barely running literally streaming fuel out the exhaust to the point where they had to evacuate the building (the shop at least). That's no joke.
Each time he does that it takes away time developing his product. The less time he gets to develop his product, the less money he makes. It's a simple equation.

The unichip was one of first ECMs introduced to aid in power development for the wrx. Since there was little else out there, people tended to gravitate towards it. However, as time passed and more ECMs and ECUs became available and people got smarter, people soon learned that the unichip was no longer a sufficient tool for WRX applications.
That's the story of the unichip.
It's always interesting to read about what people think they know about "tuners". A lot of people’s opinions are based on hearsay and stories or what they believe to be fact. Rarely do people go to the source and really ask...why? If by chance they ask, most people are already wanting to hear a specific answer, they are not listening to what the person is really saying.
There has always been a big difference between the people who think they KNOW and the people who know they KNOW.
