what would be a typical commision percentage?
I have never worked in retail or sales before so I have no idea. But what would be a typical percentage for commision for selling products that range from $50 - $150?
Thanks!

commission is based on the type of item being sold and if they get a base or hourly pay, there will be a quota.
I worked in retail during college and sold ladies shoes. my hourly rate was ~$8/hr + a commission of 9% on anything over a quota of $100/hr. Working part time I made about $18/hr not bad considering this was in 1993.
Ladies shoes is the one of the highest commission departments if not the highest in a store.

Sorry - I couldn't help it when I saw software engineer - It's the recruiter in me.
To address your question I believe it would depend heavily on what you are selling, the mark-up, how much sales pressure needed to sell the product and the overall compensation plan.
For instance - At Good Guys you make really good commission selling speakers (high markup) but almost nothing for a portable cd player (low markup.) I don't know any retail positions that are 100% commission but I have a friend who sells vacation packages at 100% commission and makes 5% commission on total revenue. Recruiters/mortgage/real estate people at 100% commission make closer to 50%+.
If you are looking for a salary range/commission structure for a specific position then maybe I can give you more detail.
Hope that helps!
