What wheel/tires to use when you see snow?
Hey guys,
I'm pretty sure i want to ship my car to Chicago this quarter. I'm tired of taking chicago public transportation. Anyhoo, I have stock wrx wheels with FUZION tires. Before i ship my car, i was thinking about buying some wheels with tires on them. Car won't see a lot of snow, but i sure as heck shouldn't be using the FUZIONs when i do see a little snow. I was thinking about getting a set of STi wheels with stock potenzas. Good on dry and useable in snow. Any suggestions (Tires i should go for)? Thanks a bunch.

stock sti tires should not be used in the snow.
just go to tirerack.com and look for something in the all season range that has good ratings and fits your price range

Toyo Proxes 4 Remember even with awd and seasonally ok tires, snow is something to be reckoned with. Furthermore the bigger problem is other people that don't know how to drive. Watch for them and give lots and lots and lots of room. Then when they spin out to the side of the road, you continue on your merry way. One final word of advice.. ask a local to explain the concept of and/or show you black ice.

I ran 512's last year. For a pure winter tire they're not bad. But I tell you what...one of the worst if not the worst...talking RE92 range terrible handling.
I highly highly recommend going with Pzeros with Proxe 4's second place.
oh and my re070's did just fine in the snow..haaaa....if you know how to drive in the snow you know how to drive in the snow....even while driving on hockey pucks..haaa.

I've got stock WRX wheels wearing Nokian NRW's as my winter set up. I'm very happy with it, but you could get away with cheaper all seasons for your purposes.
I would go for Nokian's for all-seasons performance. Their all-seasons are rated as high as a lot of winter specific tires for the snow. I'm running a set of Dunlop wintersports on a seperate set of wheels since I'm running summer only tires right now.
These work good --

otherwise I would keep these. I used them as a winter set for going to Tahoe, they are great in the snow! Absolutely no worries in
harsh conditions, snow tires and awd is the only way to go. They will close down the
roads before making an awd vehicle with snow tires put chains on.
Rims have no curb rash...there might be some small scuffs or scratch marks, very good condition. The tread is a bit uneven,
I would guestimate that there are about 2-3 winters left in the tires.
