What voids the warranty?
What voids the warranty?
You know the factory warranty that comes with an 05 WRX?
I think it's:
3 year 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty
5 year 60,000 mile powertrain
What can I do that won't void the warranty?
Like if I get an u/p, d/p, and exhaust installed, will that void it?
Say something is wrong with the car and I need to go to the dealer, can I just swap out the parts, or will the dealer know that it has been changed?
If I put lowering springs on it, will that void it? Or only void the suspension part of the warranty?
If I get it tuned with an accessport, will that void it? I could just run it back to a stock map right?
If it doesvoid the warranty, does everyone else who has modified thier car in some way, just not care about the warranty?
TIA

you can put in a downpipe and still get a radio warrantied out
you can put in a custom stereo and get a bad strut warrantied out
you can't put in a set of springs then try to get a strut warrantied out
you can't put in an aftermarket CD player then try to get a blown speaker warrantied out

basically the law on warranty denial says :if it can be proven that the modification caused direct damage on another part, the warranty on that part is void."
Dealerships dont like warranty work as they get less money on the work than if you pay for it out of pocket.

THIS is the right answer. Your warrenty basically can't be voided (with the exception that odometer alteration can do so).
However, no Subaru dealer is REQUIRED to work on your car. They can simply decide that they think the modifications caused the fault (however ridiculous it may be), and refuse to service the car. At that point, your option is to sue SoA. Good luck

Hence, pay to play.

Magnuson Moss act summed up says that any part on the car cannot have the warranty voided unless it can be proven that your aftermarket part directly caused the problem, as was said though, the service dept reserves the right to refuse service to anyone, some dealerships like to refuse more than others.
As far as modding and not caring about the warranty? I have a few mods and recently had an alternator problem. Took it to Santa Cruz and they replaced it no questions asked, I didn't even want to bother trying stevens creek. This is with Turbo, IC, UP, TBE, and a few other goodies. I do NOT expect them to warranty parts on the driveline that could have been damaged by my fun. If I blow up the rear diff I'd just upgrade it instead of trying to play dumb and try to get it warrantied. You pay to play. If you are concerned about the bumper to bumper warranty, keep it stock.

if you put say a downpipe on the car they will be like this, "the change in power will cause a change the way your suspension moves so your suspension is not under warranty. it also makes your engine bay lift up more upon acceleration causing the electrolyte in your battery to slosh so anything electical is not under warranty."
pretty much if you want ur warranty dont mess with the car.

granted, they will bend over backwards to prove it... but still.

unfortunately, there are those who would replace the stock piece back for the aftermarket so they CAN get the broken piece warrantied.
and then post on a public forum saying they just screwed SOA... (what was that dude on nabosco on who did this????) lol...

FWIW, the MM act doesnt apply to cars only.
any product you buy which has a warranty:

Thanks again, I learned a lot.
Just curious though,
Are there any kind of problems I can expect after installing u/p, d/p, and exhaust?
Are there any kind of problems I can expect from installing just springs besides the strut/shock blowing out?
TIA
