What is up with the WIND!?

Holy crap batman!

I was on 680N about 20mins ago near the durham exit when a gust of wind literally blew me into the next lane... I have NEVER felt wind that strong before in my life! This wasn't the ordinary gust of wind that makes your car shift a little over to the side, it LITERALLY made my car shift over about 8 feet into the lane next to me... Fortunate for me there was no car next to me, but traffic instantly went from about 70mph to about 45mph as everyone was literally blown away by the gusts!

I was just going south on 680 from walnut creek to danville and I was experiencing similar gusts! None that blew me into the other lane per say, but enough to make me have to correct a good amount for it. And then once I got off the freeway tree branches were everywhere! I even saw a dead raccoon

These winds aren't that bad. At least not yet. Though this appears to be the windiest I've experienced since moving up.

I was talking to my mom a few weeks back (she lives in SoCal) and the forecast was for 100mph gusts. Yeah. 100mph. Insane.

Pretty nuts for this area

That said, in one of my cross-country trips in the WRX I had a headwind like that coming across I-40 in north TX (Amarillo). Not only correcting for it in the wheel, but the car got UNDER 20 MPG on the tank of gas (75-80 MPH, ALL freeway!). Normal was about 26-28 MPG at that speed on an all freeway tank.

Wind resistance FTL...
