What tires should I order for my sister's corolla?

She needs a new set of tires and is bugging me to help her take care of it. I have no idea what to get for her. I don't want her to go to the Stealership, so I guess maybe I should order something on tirerack.com? Any recommandations? Also, How much will it cost to install them locally in kragen or something (near SF)?

Note: nothing fancy, just a normal commuter corolla.

From what I've read, the Avon Tech M550 seems to be a good tire for the money, see tirerack.com

S03s are for me only...lol

Most of what you guys suggested are not even offered in that size.....

I only need a set that is cheap (below $50 each) but still dependable for normal all-season driving

How about a set of Kumho? good enough?

Also, any know the ballpark price for installing tires in random shops (W or W/o alignment)?

REMEMBER: It's almost ALWAYS cheaper to buy tires at a store than to buy them online and then pay to get them mounted. Depending on wheel size, mounting and balancing can get easily between $100 to $175. Installation at most tire shops are included in tire pricing, but make sure before you order them. I don't know about other stores, but America's Tire Co. usually has good prices (most mainstream tires except for bridgestone) they pricematch, and they give you free mounting/balancing/valve stems, with free tire repairs, rotation and rebalances.

To really take this post seriously it really depends on driving habits. Yeah, if you're into great performance and don't care about ride harshness, tire noise, etc as long as you get handling sure, S-03s would be great.

If you're looking for something with more of a daily driver type I run Pirelli P-Zero Nero M+S which I'm expecting to get around 30k miles out of, though they do not have a mileage warranty. Mileage warranties are great, if you know how to take care of your tires.

If you want mileage warranties I'd recommend Bridgestone RE950s which has a 40k mile warranty, the Pirelli P6000 which has a 50k mile warranty, the Michelin Exalto A/S which has a 45k mile warranty are all ones that I've heard decent ratings about. Though, I've only heard great ratings about the Bridgestone RE950. As obvious as it is, remember the higher the mileage warranty, the less performance it will bring. Never buy the "certificates" the tire shop offers you if you buy tires with mileage warranties on it, they're pointless.

Oh yeah, if you want a tire that "should" last a damn long time there's always the michelin hydroedge which has a 90k mile warranty, and is supposedly superb in the rain. Good luck tire shopping, and I hope this helped.

Falken 512's worked well for me. I've ordered about 3 sets myself and have been pretty satisfied. Pretty good all season tire for the price. Should run you about 50 a piece for a corolla if you order from www.Tires.com . Install should be around 40-60 for mount and balance only. Alignment will tack on another 60-100. I heard good things about Auto Innovations, but they're a little bit of a drive if you're coming from SF.
