Hey, well I don't know where I am going yet, so far its me by myself, so I can go where ever. I've not gotten a travel book yet, and since don't know very muich about Japan, I have no clue as of right now. However, I would love to see mt fuji; I will look through a travel book for more touristy stuff, and take people's suggetions.

I'm there for 7 days, I'm planning maybe 2 or 3 days in tokyo, the rest travelling around to other cities in Japan. Do you guys have any suggestions on what are worth seeing in Japan? Cool cities to go to? Any shops where I can get parts? I was thinking I can bring some sti injectors, jdm turbos maybe.

 

If you're buying OEM stuff, it can take up to a week to get the parts in, so stop at the dealer as soon as you arrive and plan to be back there just before you leave. Bring pictures / drawings of the parts and WRITTEN specs (with JDM model codes, they won't be able to look up foreign model codes) if you don't speak Japanese. Honestly, it's a pain in the ****. I'm happy to have my OEM sedan roof rack but really had to go out of my way to get them. Hauling big cardboard boxes on buses and trains was not much fun.

Exchange lots of cash. Credit cards aren't widely accepted.

Check out Toyota Megaweb on Odaiba (bring an international driver's license available from AAA), and look up the race schedules at the local tracks -- spectating a race in Japan is lots of fun. Suzuka, Motegi, etc. If you're planning to do a lot of travelling around the country, grab a Japan Rail Pass -- it will pay for itself in no time. Check out the plant tour at Toyota in Aichi -- they have occasional English tours. All of this stuff needs to be planned far in advance.

Hot springs in Hakone or thereabouts with a view of Mt. Fuji, if you're into that.

Finally, the first week and a half of January in Japan are a nightmare and require a whole nuther level of special preparation to work around the crazy holiday rush. I really hope you're not going during that time. I'll be there from 24th to 31st of January-ish, maybe we can meet up if you're around.

 

I'm gonna be there as of right now 17 to 24th, Jeremy above is gonna be there from the 11-17 I miss everyone! LOL, I'll see about changing some times around. Thanks a lot for the suggestions, I would definitely have to look into all this...

One other thing, you dont want to spend a ton of time while on vacation in japan trying to locate and buy parts. Unless it was a part you REALLY wanted and absolutley could not source in the US(not likely nowadays) the amount of time and effort you would spend locating them, traveling out to wherever it is to buy them, then packing them and and hauling them around in transit to and through the airports(you know what a PITA turbos would be??) could easily outweigh the difference in money it would cost to just pick up your phone when you get home and have one delivered to you by one of the place here in the states that specializes in importing parts everyday. Hell, even most of the good used JDM parts end up on Ebay by reputable sellers and the difference in shipping is uaually only an extra $50 and week more on delivery. Its your vactation, have fun!

i'll be there january 10-21st with international b, subydude and davon for TAS 06...thinking of hitting up ebisu and tsukuba racing circuit, takasaki, osaka and side trips to Alex, Kei Office, Top Secret, Cusco and maybe Spoon =)

Hey whats a good site/place/agency to look for hotels in Japan? How much should I expect to pay for a decent hotel, say around 3 stars...thats if I can find others to go with me...if not, I guess I might hit up some hostels.

you should check out the business hotels in tokyo...thats where i am having the travel agent i am talking to book me and my friend for the last 5 days we are there....check out www.jnto.go.jp as well as www.japan-guide.com...

 

the first 5 nites we are staying at the Crowne Plaza Metro in Tokyo and second five nites dont know yet...have to wait for travel agent to let me know
