what shop makes custom sub boxes?

Hey guys, i searched to avoid being a noob, but i couldnt find anything.

Basically, is there any shop around southbay/danville area that can do custom sub box. kinda like a stealth box? i dont really like the evoaudio one cuz its so boxy. i basically wanted a custom one to go in the corner so i could try to maximize trunk space and not have a chunk of my trunk dead. also, could this be done for like 250? or is my price way too low for this sort of work. thanks for any help that can be provided.

A shop is gonna charge you on average about $70 an hour.

So figure $750 for what you want. And that's on the cheap side. That's what mine cost if I remember correctly. Have to ask the original owner.

If you can get one from someone that isn't a "shop" but still knows what they're doing or is a shop person but doing on their own free time..you could get one for like $4-500.

With all the how to's out there I bet you could do it by yourself.

But yeah..figure on somewhere over $400. Don't get pissed if someone quotes you $1000. Little excessive but still...it takes like 50 plus hours to make a good one.

i would make my own, but i honestly dont have the know how, and i think matierials would be more than the 299 im gonna pay for a box i found. i wish xzibit could pimp my ride, but it looks like everyone else already bought cars from the junkyard to submit to the show. =/

anyway, thanks again guys. if anyone else has ideas or sggestions, chime in!

i've got a first generation JL 10w6 that my buddy will sell me REALLY cheap, and he never used it so its brand new. which is why im trying to keep all the costs down, to kinda get an econo-system going. the box im looking at that i really like is this one:

http://www.wickedcas.com/gallery/cat...s.php?cat_id=5

its kinda expensive thats why i was wonder if there was any local custom solutions that might be able to do it cheaper. If i get that box, its gonna be more expensive than my sub/amp/wires. =/

i dont really like the spare tire box cuz i want to keep the spare, just incase, and it seems like it would be a pain in the butt to get the spare out with that setup. Also, i go boarding a lot, so i would hate to destroy the sub with wet/muddy gear.

biggest cost of materials is the resin..

around $25 per gallon. buy at a marine supply store like WEST MARINE.

then around $10-20 for the fiberglass. maybe more.

another $5-10 for resin hardener. then misc costs like gloves, masks, etc, say $10-30.

might need a respirator instead of mask.

you know that old saying "there aint no such thing as a free lunch?"

kinda applies to sub enclosures too.

unfortunately, subwoofer works by moving air. lots of air.

what's needed is a speaker with lots of surface area to move lots of air.

now you know why you dont see a lot of high end subwoofer using 5" subwoofers.

that link you gave gives minimal airspace behind the driver. now i know JL subs are known to work well in small enclosures. my first one from 6-7 years ago was a 12" one and it COULD work in a very properly designed enclosure under 1 cubic foot. IIRC, it was like .6 or .7 c/ft.

i built a rectagular box that was around 1.5' c/ft.

anyways, what's getting to is that you can take a look another class of bass drivers. they are call bass transducers. they work by moving the surface they are mounted on, rather than the air.

i went to a show a few years ago, where a 4 door ford taurus was setup by a maker of one of these guys. i listened in the car and it was a very acceptable sounding bass. in fact, i spent a few minutes going over the trunk, under seats, etc to see of the AURA (the maker) stuffed some hidden subwoofers. but then didnt. the driver is about the size of stack of 25 blank CDs.

anyways, good luck on your project. i'd like to see how that turns out.

for my STi, i bought a wacky see-through but bulky MOMO enclosure with a 12" driver in it... i got lazy and bought one... lol... it was cheap at fry's... i just have it ghetto-strapped down in the trunk.
