What the hell was this guy thinking?
Ok, I am going to go out the other way on this...
I think he used too many strobes, had he cut them to just the tail lights and headlights, the rest of the car was well done. Nice use of neon to accent the motor and undercarriage.
I don't get why you all get so AAHHHHHHHH about night lights/neon. If done right it can look good, and when building a show car, thats the idea. Most of you know I am building my forester for auto-x, but I will be showing it also. Undercarriage is being painted and detailed, when I redo the motor everything will be painted, powder coated, or jetcoated. The goal is to have a well done, clean car...that can show, and go, all at once.

But aren't neons, night lights, glow sticks, strobe lights, disco *****, etc. the complete opposite of "clean"? To me, clean means, well, clean in the literal sense, but also free from extraneous features that add nothing to the car's primary function - to drive. The driving experience is enhanced by getting rid of extra weight by removing things that are of no practical use on the road. What this moron has done is completely the opposite. It seems like this guy's "car" is primarily a rolling rave party/disco, with actual driving being its secondary or tertiary function. Again, this is just my opinion. I also hate body kits, big wheels, chrome of any kind (on sport compact imports), decals, carbon fiber, etc. so my vehement dislike of all things rice (which, to me, is all things unnecessary) isn't limited to this Scion.
"clean" doesnt mean removing everything, it means making sure every part works with every other part. Good body kits, that flow right, with no broken lines or odd voids. Lighting that color matches and complimnets the work done. Little details like painting/powdercoating every bolt and nut, Decals should match and be even and not overdone...
There is much work that goes into a show car, more than I can list here. As example my last show car, a 84 nissan truck, had over 30k in chrome, hydros, frame smoothing, body drop, bed hydros, and custom work done to it, This included a candy purple lace flaked paintjob that streched even under the bed, along the frame, and the block (it was not driven, it was a trailer queen)
So the forester will be done clean, but not "loud" like the lowrider was. I plan on having the block/heads powdercoated silver, every bolt will be blackchromed, all brackets done in silver, every hose, connector, and pipe in blue...and so on. It will be the "jewel" of the car as you open the hood.
*edit* now you used "rice"... rice to me, is a slap together car with no thought to it. Its the stock honda some guy slaps a body kit on and calls it done, its the coffee can exaust tip with no other mods, the ugly paint job that doesnt flow with the body shape. Rice, is someone who is trying to be "show" but lacks the money to do it or the taste. A example would be in F&F, the green car "brian" drove, was RICE, poorly layed out, ugly colors.. wheras the gold 4 door that "hector" had was well done, paint matched into the engine compartment, body kit molded in, motor was chromed and polished to match the paint look, it was "show"

Having built 4 show cars now, including one that took top VW at lowriders finals in LA (back in the early 90's) you have to understand...

For all of you afraid, i mean wishing his car would catch fire he had a fire extinguisher prominently displayed in the back seat. in my opinion if he had spent all that money on making the scion go fast maybe it would have out accelerated a turd. The sad thing is this is the kind of poop winning at HIN.
