What else can you get for STI money?
What else can you get for STI money?
So it seems there has been a bit of a commotion from the pricing on the new STI. Starting at 35k and going up to 40k seems to most a bit much, myself included. So I've done some research for the group to show you what you can get for the same kind of money.
2008 Benz C350 with Nav - $40,225
2008 Lexus IS250 AWD with Nav - $40,765, without Nav - $34,950
2008 Lexus IS350 with Nav - $42,315, without Nav - $36,770
2008 Acura TL Type S with Nav - $39,140
2008 Toyota Avalon XLS with Nav - $36,264
2008 Honda Accord V6 with Nav - $31,244
2008 BMW 335i with Nav - $41,775 - Includes 4yr. service
2008 BMW 135i with Nav - $37,775 - Includes 4yr. service
Not to mention the myriad of other cars that can be had for well less than $40k. Also, take into account the dealer markup that the early adopters have been having to pay.
I'm not saying that I wouldn't like to have a new STI, and I'm not saying that any of these cars are better or worse than the new STI. But when it comes down to it, is it really worth $40k?
I hope this sparks a reasonable discussion about what the alternatives are, and what would be a fair price for the STI, rather than turning into some e-***** flamewar.

Well, having done a few track days in my WRX, I would have definitely said Lotus Elise!! But the 2008 is listing for around $46k, also quite an increase in only 2-3 years. Not sure if it's the weakness of the dollar or just increased mfg costs.
I'd take a 1-2 year old Exige for around $40k, or maybe the Exige S (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEzFqPXcqdI) for a bit more.

FWIW, if you shop a bit you can pick up a lightly optioned C6 Vette for $40K (yes, new) in real world pricing.

I had a professor a few years back who owned a Vette and a WRX. He said, he loved the Vette because of it's power, but he loved driving the WRX so much more because it's more fun to drive.
The price between that vette and the 08 STi may be similiar but they are in way different ballparks...I mean anyone considering the STi (4 door hatch) wouldnt consider a C6 Vette (2 door sport) and vice versa.
I for one would like to have both, the STi as the daily driver and the vette as the weekend/track car

Same price? G37 is around the same...
And....
The Mugen Civic Si.... 35K for a body kit, no turbo, and FWD... but it gets EXCELLENT GAS MILEAGE!
Not to mention, it will probably get stolen faster than it can make the quarter mile.
