Maybe Scott would like a g-tech pro competition performance meter. It's a fun little gadget that mounts in the car and measure acceleration, lateral g's, and braking. It has user-adjustable shift lights (bright LEDs). It comes with PC software and serial cable to further analyze runs.
I ordered one recently from an online vendor and am still exploring its features.

The r/c truck wasn’t a bad idea, that is like 150. I just didn’t know if there was any cool toys out, I am not up to speed on this stuff since we don’t live together any more, I use to get the “Oh cool look at this” every night, it made gift buying much easier.
