I use the store bought stuff. I don't like windex. It's too potent to be having sprayed all over your car. It'll rip the wax right off.
The stuff with rainX in it is pretty cool. I like to use stuff with winterizer/deicer in it as well.
Straight water is pointless... especially if you drive in mud/snow. Just creates a frozen mud puddle on your windshield.

But I'll just mix some window cleaner with water or just buy store bought stuff that has bug remover since there's a lot out in my area.

I've heard of people using methanol/water mixtures. When I worked at the gas station we used ammonia and water... that stuff ripped for not leaving streaks. Or alcohol and water but that's just a waste of money. Methyl Hydrate works well for deicing.
Camco and Rain-X both work just fine.

water with corn starch. like 1 tablespoon in a spray bottle, shake it up and begin. you need 2 towels, one for the main clean and one to get rid of the streaks while its drying. we used to do this on our sliding glass door in our house but cant anymore because too many people walk into it
If in doubt, FLAT OUT

Rain-x because it was on sale at ORileys 2 for 1 for a gallon. It uses DI water for no streaks and works great. I kept some in a spray bottle and use it to wipe down all the windows after washing the car too.

I suggest you get some of these 303 tablets:
http://www.amazon.com/303-Instant-Wi...3910766&sr=1-3
I, along with the whole family fleet of cars, will be changing to that soon. You drop the tablet into fresh water and it will create a solution.
All the other premixed windshield wiper fluids really suck and do leave a bunch of water etching quickly over time. If you decide to use any rain x bug retardants, make sure you properly dilute it, the concentration alone is pretty strong and can permanently eat through your paint.

Are you talking about the sprayer reservoir in the car or for cleaning your windshield by hand?
Distilled water for the reservoir
