You're getting your PhD at Stanford? What a coincidence. My wife just finished her psych doctoral internship there and is now doing her postdoc at Stanford. We should hook up sometime when I am in the area. Genetics startup in South City? Genentech is out that way (I live in Daly City at the South City/Daly City border, used to live in South City, have a few friends from Cal who ended up working at Genentech). Good luck with the startup. In this economy, every bit of luck helps.
Anyways, to add my two cents, I'm currently a Senior Sysadmin for an Options trading company in the financial district in SF (although I'm looking for a new job, because working market hours on the West Coast sucks big time) with about 13 years experience in everything except writing code. I'm CCNA, have experiences in all MS OSes, some Unix, all around Computer guy. Those of you who know of any job openings, let me know and I'll send a resume

Im currently working in San Ramon as a IT Director for a medium sized Mortgage Broker. (anyone want to buy a house or refi ill give them a no cost loan!) On the weekends im a consultant for a WISP in Vacaville (security,network, and a lil of bus). Oh and if anyone wants a CISSP to do a security audit for them im the man. (im a CWNA as well, working on a GIAC in the next coming months)..

It's a network security group which hangs out at my cafe in Dublin (www.celebritycafe.tv), once a month, 2nd tuesday.
