What to do with a G5Powermac?
I just got a G5 Power Mac... Its got some age but has been fully spec'ed out so I thought it could do something... but what? any idea's?
It's missing the harddrive, but i figure i can find one for cheap... anyone know where I can find a restore disk?

I hope you didn't pay too much for it, they're not really able to do much unless you plan on rendering with older software. Everything is dropping powerPC support and going Intel. It won't even run the latest Mac OS.

i paid nothing for it... i'm thinking about just hooking it up to my tv for media. Any ideas on how to get this thing working? I have a 500gb HD sitting around... a imac running leopard and access to a g4 powerbook.... if that helps any.
I had a G5 power mac at one point. Boy did that thing age quickly.
It's a sweet case -- does it have standoffs for an ATX motherboard? I would probably scrap the internals and modify the case for a modern PC build. You could definitely get it back in action for under $100, but it would hardly be a useful tool after sinking that 100.

If it's missing the HDD, a restore disk isn't going to do much since there's nothing to restore. Just pop in a new HDD and load up an OS of your choice. Should be fine as a HTPC, but I'd want to put in the biggest HDD I can find.

it sounds like i'm going to have to image the drive on the imac thats running leopard. and i just found out that the G5 needs a sata drive.... i only have IDE drives sitting around... ugh not sure if i even wanna invest 30 bucks on getting one off amazon.
