This turbo (Garret GT28RS) was originally used on SCC's project 240 (?), which was called the disco potato because of the color-shift paint. That's where the nickname came from.
Oh, and WRX stands for 'World Rally eXpiramental'. So there.

it's called the "disco potato" because the Garret engineer that came up with it's specifications put it in a color shifting brown Sentra for the Ultimate Street Car Shootout in SCC.
