My oem battery died within less thna a year, an Optima Yellow (vintage 2002) carried me until 2007, when a reconditioned optima red went in but a loose hold-down shorted that one out to where it wouldn't hold a charge so at 9PM on a Saturday in the middle of nowhere Nevada, a Wal-mart replacement was put in, and has been working fine.
My Audi just got a new Kragen unit.
While there are times and specific situations that might call for them, for the most part I am starting to think expensive batteries are over-rated and not worthy of the hype/cost.

Just replaced the stock battery last week with a Diehard Gold...I think Sears are more common that Costco, so I went with them. Always nice to have a place close to go and replace the battery if needed

Honestly, best advice for a battery on a street car:
Just by an plain old Exide or Interstate Battery with the longest warranty you can find.
Red-Tops are a waste of money. Yellow Tops are a better battery, but you probably don't need a gel-core battery.
If you think you need a better battery, you probably need a better alternator
