Stop driving for commuting purposes?

Random curiosity. We all know these prices will eventually come to pass; the only question is when.

I have no choice but to commute my car. There is NO public transit out here. NONE. My only choice is to move closer and buy a motorcycle.

And I honestly don't think it'll hit anything over $6 anytime soon. They are already trying to find ways to get it in check and congress is working with that bill to stop price gouging... didn't make it but in some form it will sooner or later.

I think the rich and the politicians are starting to realize that yeah they're making more money of fuel taxes and fuel costs but they're LOOSING money EVERYWHERE else. No money to spend... no economy. Simple as that.

So simple answer. Never.

i get 26mpg on my 00RS and only have about 10 miles of commute... I am already thinking about taking the bus. But I have to travel around for detailing from time to time which makes it impossible...

I'm already thinking of riding my MC year round just to save on gas. Going from 20-22mpg in the car to 35-40mpg on the bike is great!

I haven't though of using public transportation yet.

Seriously guys when I moved here from Ireland Gas price was around $8.50 a gallon I kid not it is now around $9. I still commuted to work, the price of gas will increase and thats a given it will NEVER go back down the rate at which rises might slow but it won't stop.. I still think gas is cheap, its all relative.

What will end up happening over here is people will just adapt and start using smaller cars with better mph. The average car size in europe is at least half the cc than here. A 1.6 or 1.8 litre car is common.

Gas here is creeping up towards $5 and will be there soon. What I'm I going to do if it hits $10 well hopefully Subaru will have a nice high powered Hybrid STi or electic STi by then - Fingers crossed.

You need a car to get around America it is pretty much impossible to live without a car over here. Yeah maybe a bike will do but we will all need cars for the forseeable future anyways. Sure my driving habits have changed I car pool to work, walk to the nearest shop instead of drive 2mins down the road..

But hey it could be worse and there could be no gas at all ) Hope everybody has the horse and cart ready LOL
