What is this 2004 WRX worth?
my girlfriend will be buying a Subaru in the near future so i have been kinda looking around for a WRX. she wants a white one or a black one. i found a white WRX with low miles. but i wanted to ask fellow i-club members to see what you guys think on the price...
2004 White Subaru WRX
56,900 original miles
fully catless exhaust
ssq hks bov
esx big tmic
intake
rally armor mudflaps
new tires
hid lights
exterior is clean except the door handles are really scratched
and the interior is semi clean, i think a tear or two in the seats
two 12" subs and amplifier, etc sound system
his asking price was $14,500. i told him id pay $11,900 tops without the speakers and stuff because my girlfriend needs the trunk space and is not really into a sound system or anything like that.
so he thought about it for a couple days, and he got back to me and said that he is willing to drop to $12,500 or $12,000 without the sound system.
here are some pictures i took when i checked it out. it drove nice, and sounded good. the clutch was a little stiff, but maybe im just not use to it. i would like to hear what you guys think about pricing? if $12,000 is a decent price, im going to have a mechanic look at it this week and go from there.
what do you guys think?

Has it been tuned at all? It has a BOV and big intercooler, so was he just putting that on there for bling or did he have a big turbo or something?
I was going to ask the same thing. Honestly I would stay away from it with all the after market stuff on it and no tune. Hell even with a tune I probably would shy away unless you are having your mechanic run a full compression test on the engine. If you are patient you'll find exactly what you are looking for again.

I would be careful about the mods since you never know, but if she would drive a 4eat pm me my car has the same miles and I have all the paperwork from what's been done. You can talk to Noah and Adam at LIC about my car as well.

I wouldn't completely pass it up for no tune (assuming that it hasn't been destroyed yet), but I'd get it done ASAP, and get a compression test, etc. I'd ask for a significant discount because of it, and I'd also try and get him to come down more if he doesn't have the stock parts to put back on.
Replacing all the cats is $$$ unless you get the BAIC hookup on used stuff (I think I remember it being $1k for just the downpipe and midpipe cats, not including the uppipe one). Then you need the IC (since that one has a big *** logo on it) and the stock BOV (since that one is hella shiny).
Assuming that the car is still in good shape and no major damage has been done, you could list the cost of a tune (~$400 at EQ), and the cost of all of the parts I just mentioned that you will need to pass smog. Tell him you'll need to do all that stuff just to get the car in usable condition, so you want it that much cheaper
Also, this is really minor but it's missing the plastic duct on the passenger side in the front... Not necessary, but having is better than having not.

First he had n00bish mods (bov, big tmic) when neither are needed on stock turbo.
Second he didnt get the car tuned for a full catless exhaust.
Third not having the stock tmic and exhaust will cost you money when smog comes around (even tho when he sells the car, it is his legal responsibility for it to pass).
So a combination of those parts with no tune, and assuming he's a young guy (17-24) he prolly mashed the crap out of the car. The clutch and tranny might need work soon, and who knows whats been done to the motor.
Best bet is finding a car like that from an older guy who bought one when he was going thru his "mid life crisis". Generally speaking, they are more kind to their "toys" than a twenty something year old
(minus us who are on here and know the "right" way of modding
).
