Went to the track dipstick popped out sprayed oil etc. advice plz
Hey there, took my car to the track, its fp green ewg, blow thru maf. Anyway towards the end of the day on the last couple laps I thought I saw a little mist cloud when lifting off the throttle. Anyway I was pretty worried, but saw my dip stick was popped out. I checked the oil and it's full, and even still clean (changed it yest) before the event.
Should I be worried, is that an indicator of a problem with the motor? or could it have been a fluke. The temp never moved on the gauge, and the car still seems to have good power.
I have another day tomorrow, Should I skip it or go ahead?
Anything I can check with the Cobb AP ahead of time?
thank you.

when your dipstick blows out it means you have too much crankcase pressure, usually this means a bad PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve, but if it only happens when you are really pushing on it, like on the track, it most likely means excessive blow-by through your rings. now this doesnt necessarily mean your rings are bad, your just beating the **** out of them and your getting excessive blow-by. do a compression test and leakdown, if things look good then your fine and just know its only doing it at the extremes, if the test comes back bad then ,well, rebuild?

Additionally some catch cans can increase crank case pressure by having inlets/outlets that are more restrictive than the PCV/ head breathers outlets. There is documentation somewhere (maybe in Subaru or Garrett tech docs?) that excessive crank case pressure can cause oil to build up in the turbo do to the excessive pressure affecting the turbo oil drain's ability to drain oil effectively.
Just food for thought. I am a firm believe in large inlets and outlets on catch cans.
Is your engine stock or built? A built engine is usually going to have more blowby due to greater piston to wall clearences then stock. This means higher crank case pressure when all other variables are the same, so keep that in mind.
For now, if your oil pressure is good, and everything is running well, go for it. Of course if you are able check the things that Krinkov mentioned, and keep an eye out for excessive blow by (pools of oil in inlet and intercooler). What to tell you really depends on what your whole setup consists of.

ok thanks guys. My oil is still full so luckily loss was minimal. I went out and had someone rev the car with the oil cap open and everything looks good/no smoke out the exhaust or oil smell, I hope it was a fluke. Guess I'll be going for compression/leakdown as soon as I return.

The posts above have great info and this is a great thread.
So the it started happening again at the end of the first 30 minute session on sunday. At this point the dipstick did not appear to be popped out, and definitely not all the way out like before, however there was again some oil on the ic piping/bov area. My oil was still totally full at this point and did not require and adding. I decided to call it a day at this point. The car made the drive home fine (I was very easy and just cruised at about 80). It seemed to drive and idle fine. So I guess I will be getting a compression /leakdown pretty quickly here and hope for the best. There was a little bit of oil coating the pcv area I checked by popping the tube off by intake. The oil is still very clean according to mr dipstick.
Pray for me otherwise the sti may be sitting again, GODDAMNIT JESUS!

I did that in my honda once. Except it was a bolt. Sucker flew out and smashed my hood an shot oil all over the hood.
That thing had some serious compression and the bolt was busted. I just didn't know it yet.

I feel for you man. Mine is down yet again. And I can't get it fixed till I get home, load it up and take it to phx. Then I'll have to wait longer to get the car back.

OP: you never answered my questions about your block. Stock or built?
If you have blow by, then you will have oil coming from your BOV... Especially under boost for a prolonged amount of time. The question is whether it is an excessive amount.
Now is the time for a leak and compression test to be safe
