was how the Nissan service advisor started off the call regarding the recall on my 2002 Sentra SE-R.
I brought it in for the precat replacement/ecu reprogramming recall. Details of the recall are HERE .
I get this call about 5pm.
After I hear my car isn't gonna be ready today it goes something like this...
Nissan service guy: "and I have some bad news."
Me: "What's that? (thinking it wasn't gonna be done today was the worst.)"
NSG: "You're gonna need a new engine."
ME:
"uhm... what?...?"
NSG: "Looks like your part of the 1% of (QR25 owners) with engines damaged by the precatalyst and need to replace your engine... but it's at no cost to you."
Me: "uhh uhh... well that's not what I was hoping to hear." UNDERSTATEMENT OF THE MILLIENUM.
NSG: "We just put in the order for a replacement engine and it will take our service techs about 3 to 4 days to put it in. But regarding a car in the mean time, since you're out of your warranty, I need to ask my service manager tomorrow if we can get you a rental."
Me: "um uh ok." Still in shock.
NSG: " So I'll call you back tomorrow with the information."
Me: "uh ok."
Damn... it all...
So does anyone know how this works??? The engine is new so do they reset my odometer? And am I back under warranty again? How do I put this if/when I wanna sell this???
Oh and Nissan offficially gets the BIG
RX8 inclinations are growing steadily...

And dont get an RX-8.
They look nice, but my stock rex whooped ones *** the other night....the guy lives in my complex so if you really have your heart set on one I can ask him if there are any issues he knows of.

when I get an RX8, it won't because of it's outright speed. I mean for the $ I could get an Evo for a little more if I just wanted the speed but it's not the only thing...
when I test drove the RX8 it pulled about has hard as my Sentra, but that didn't really surprise me since they have about the same amount of torque!!!
I think it's just too hot in terms of looks to pass up... I mean I didn't buy my 1st RS thinkin it was the fastest thing in the world either. I bought it cuz it looked just as hot too! So think of it as a continuation of a buying trend with the Sentra being the hiccup in the flow of things...

I have heard of that before with the new SE-R.
The exhaust header has a pre-cat inside that aparently can break loose and get sucked back into the cylinder chamber, valves etc... I don't know exactly how this happens, but it's not the first time I have heard of this

same thing happened to my 90 4runner. well kinda similar. the 3vz-e truck v6 had the infamous head gasket issue.
one day out of the blue i had to get a tranny issue taken care of. so i bring it to the dealer.
so they asked me if i had the HG checked and i said mine blew about 2.5 years ago. they said, they had a new design that they will check anyways.
they give me a rental and long story short, i ended up with a new block!!!!
this is after toyota has released the special service campaign (read: recall) for the HG issue.
so the dealerhips were glad to do this since they get tons more $$$ for what they are actually doing.
btw, ask for a similar car for your FREE rental.
everything should be on nissan's tab...
