Well, its the new mmmmmBoost... a la Wheel Techniques
Wheel Techniques did exactly what I wanted, and I think it looks supremely sick! Now all that's missing is a new front lip, of which I am thinking of going OEM.
I was nervous at first with some fishy stories about Wheel Techniques. Its a $2000 set of rims, three of which were deformed a bit: one had a cosmetic bend on the outter lip, one had a bend on the edge of the rim so bad it wouldn't balance and one was even worseso that it wouldnt allow a new tire to bead. So it was at least $2000 for a new set (and really I was contemplating some SSRs so we're looking closer to $2500 or even $3000) or $1000 for Wheel Techniques and trust them to work their magic.
Well, after talking colors and styles for a while, I decided on a LE37T look for my (now former) white TE37s. But I just didnt like the gunmetal Rays uses. Its just too light for my taste, especially with a white WRX. So I picked the color you see out of a set of huge swatch books. Jeff and John (the owners, it seems, of WT) were pretty excited, "Its gonna look awesome" they each said about 50 times. Admitedly, the overuse of this phrase did kinda make me nervous. After things took about 1 1/2 weeks longer than projected, as they said they had some issues with the paint color, they were done. Information was hazy sometimes about when they'd be done as they kept having those paint problems and were mixing me up with another customer with CE28s. Both Volks, I guess some people confuse easily. So this meant two drives from SF to Santa Clara that weren't needed. I finally laid down the law with Jeff saying I had been really patient, but these wheels were begining to cost me as one wasted trip was even a 1/2 day of vacation. But he was cool and said he would discount me $250 off that $1000 if the wheels were late again. Well, this seemed to motivate them and when all was said and done, they did a great job and the paint is guaranteed for life.
You can see they even polished the RAYS valve caps (they were originally anodized blue), for a nice touch. I also ordered some genuine VOLKracing stickers from Mackin Industries through MachIII in SF ... so no one confuses them for Grids
As a final note, I was afriad that when the model stickers (that are put on the inside of the wheel well that show all the specs) were removed for painting I'd never be able to verify that they were genuine Rays wheels if I ever wanted to sell them. Fortunately, the brand is forged right into the back of the hub
How do the look?

BASTARD.
I have refused to put wheels with polished lips on my car cause I think they look tacky(on white). Now I must change my opinion. this is not good for my pocket book.
they look hot.

I was debating for a while. I made those mockups a few weeks back with some photochopping and it helped me figure it out. . I wanted something more aggressive than white on white... which admittedly ain't hard to do - just go dark. But all dark wheels on a white car? Too much contrast, makes you look like you're running low-end model Forrester steelies without wheel covers, heh. I wasn't sure it'd look good until I saw the wheels in person, and I was floord at Wheel Techniques work.jason
