Weird electrical issue

A friend of mine has a legacy thats wired properly (as far as I know) for aftermarket hids. The bulbs get power from a seperate relay and drawing power directly from the battery on a seperate circuit. The headlight switch is only used as a trigger to turn the lights on and I believe its connected to the left headlight circuit.

Now the weird problem. His left headlight keeps turning off randomly. The fuse/relay/bulbs are all fine. The ballasts and bulbs have also been changed twice. But heres the weird part, if he takes the fuse for the left headlight out and then puts it back in, the headlight comes on until it randomly goes off. (so basically cycling the fuse makes it work)

Anyway figured Id ask here incase someone has run into similar issues.

I have a similar problem where sometimes when i start my car with my headlights on, only one headlight will come on. If i start the car and let the lights "charge" per say, they both come on and stay on. I dont know exactly what is causing this, but that is one way i get around my problem. LOL
goodluck!

Interesting. Im going to pass him the info along with changing the polarity (doubtful lol) which I read on Nasioc. Will post answer here if it works.

deff keep us updated! just throw it out there, in my past experience, something that suddenly looses power or shuts off, tends to be a bad ground. im guessing uve checked all grounds and exposed connections? it IS the season for tiny miniscule tears in wires to do its damage.

Try swapping relays left to right, maybe the contacts are burnt in one giving poor momentary contact.

Edit: never mind, thought I read they both have separate relays. Check the left light circuit, if the bulbs and ballasts are new the only thing left that's not shared is wiring.

Have you tried switching the bulbs around to see if the problem follows? I had a light bulb that wouldn't come on sometimes, but if I switched the lights on then off it would work. Eventually found out the bulb was bad when it wouldn't work at all.

**nevermind, i missed the part where you said the bulbs and ballasts were changed.**

Yea the bulbs and ballasts were changed. Im going to suggest to him to put it on the right light circuit and see if it changes anything. Its likely some sort of a ground/shorting issue but only seems to happen when the circuit is overheating.

Yep only one relay, just two fuses. One for left headlight and one for the right one. Wiring is the likely culprit I think.
