This week in AutoX
D Stock suprise, Matthew Reher (BMW 330i) out drives his instructor from the autox school and nails 1st place. I believe Tim D. has second place in the bag (not sure on that one though).
STX - After spending quality time with the WRX Ed now seems to have figured it out netting a 2nd place finish today! Paul Clark (CalTrans colored Mazda) seems to be the one to beat in STX... unless Ralph comes back.
Don't know what went on in the rest of the world. I got a 62.377. Ahhh... If only I could have traded my second run performance (no major mistakes) for my 3rd run (where I was driving with at least one thumb up my butt).
But anyhow, it's best of 3 so there you have it. It dried up A LOT over the runs. I was looking at the time differences in the trailer and there was a 4 second difference between 1st and 2nd runs across the board. Faster times are to be expected as the course gets scrubbed but that was a pretty dramatic difference. I had a blast... just wished it rained for everyone else as well.
Cheers, Joe

oh yeah
it got dry... but it was still pretty slick out there... they still had the lake crossing in the beginning when i was running.
the back end was pretty much dry... but there was still mud patches that eventually turned into sand.
so it was still quite slick
i was actually hoping for rain... that would have been fun!

I was pretty disapointed in my supposed tire performance that has "wet weather capablities.
best I could manage was a slippery 62.9... I need new tires.

Yeah, pretty happy overall with my time.....although I got thisclose to winning STX
The 62.2 was the second run. Third run, I hit a cone in the front slalom. Since I KNEW there was no way I was gonna get a 60.0 scratch time on the run (Andy Clark at that time had a 62.1) I ended up letting up a bit. Got back into it, and pulled a 62.18 scratch time.
I'm pretty impressed with how well the Azenis did in the wet. I ended up running approx 2 psi less than my "regular" dry pressures, and with the extra "slip" it worked while still letting the tires grip but not roll over.
BTW, I dropped almost FIVE seconds (66.8 to 62.2) from first to second run. Just looked at the video tape, and it's obvious on tape that it dried up a good bit.
Subydude : welcome to the Candlestick sludge/mud/sand that you get when it TRIES to dry out after rain

Very first run group of the day when it was pouring. I think I came in 2nd in STX-N.
73.003
68.175
69.255 (+1) First cone I've ever hit in Auto-X. Die cone!!!
Since it warmed up a little on the last run I had my window down. And on that run I forgot to roll up my window and turn on my wipers. So I went through the first lake and on the turn right after I was rolling up my window, turning on my wipers and shifting at the same time. Man...

I had a 64.xx, then ran a 63.9. But my comp. ran a 61.9. I had to beat him. So I did with an amazingly screeching tires the whole way 61.6. So that should be what gives me 1st in SM-N.

Impala SS AutoX, I was truely amazed at how well the Azenis were handling is the incredibly changing conditions on the first round.
If people have vids, I can host.
I'll have some vids up shortly.

Chris : I do know the Azeni tread pattern is similar to the Yoko A032R.....which is sort of known as being the "heavy rain worthy" R-compound tire (i.e. it pumps water very well). I suspect the Azenis (with some tread on them) may turn out to be a pretty decent rain tire. They sure are noisy as hell going down the road though!

Thanks Ed. Yeah Joe, I am pushing you to do better man. Gotta have some friendly comp. But damn who would have thought that Scott would have beaten Vic in Vic's own car by turning a 55.x.
