Water Leaking Into Trunk and Mold
Wow. I just found out yesterday that water has been leaking into my trunk and soaking up the area behind the right tailight. The rug of the trunk in that corner is all wet and when I went to lift it up, I noticed that the wood panel covering the spare tire has a good amount of mildew/mold on it and the smell is a little noticeable. Do you guys have any suggestions on cleaning off the mold and the rug? I already know where the leak is occuring. Just needed some suggestions on cleanup. Thanks in advance for any help!!! Oh this is a 2002 WRX by the way.

If you don't have that much skill, an upholstery shop will do it for just a few dollars, depending on how fancy you want it.

Rip that crap out and throw it away. My RS is entirely free of carpet. Much easier to keep clean. Just use a wet rag. Still hammering away at the sound proofing though.

I have thought about the upholstery shop..But I think I will use the bleach to try to wipe out some of it.
I did a water test and it seems that the body shop that fixed my car in March didn't do such a great job in sealing up the trunk after I got in my wreck. My dad got a bucket of water and poured it slowly from the roof and let it run down to the trunk. We waited til the water stopped then opened the trunk slowly and lo and behold, the newspaper we put in the corner was soaked.

as far as the carpet goes, go to home depot and pick out some carpet from their big rolls and have them cut it. then just trace the outline of your old mat onto it and cut it out. you can get it fairly cheap that way

WRXRambo,
tell you insurance company about the crappy repair. They will foot the bill for cleaning, a better repair and an OEM liner, etc.

Who should I call first? The insurance company or the body shop?
