I think Nellie will get more out these guys, but Nellie has done very little with talented Warriors and Maverick teams.

Just look at last year, Avery Johnson was able to take the Mavs to the finals and should have won it if it was not for a 5 minute brain fart... that team was essentially the same team Nellie had.

all I have to say is...wtf

1) Which person(s) deserves the most blame for the Warriors' recent losing ways?

25.7% Garry St. Jean, previous executive VP of basketball operations
25.4% Chris Cohan, owner
21.5% The players
19.0% Chris Mullin, executive VP of basketball operations
8.4% Rod Higgins, general manager

2) Which of the following statements best describes your assessment of Mike Montgomery as a head coach?

56.8% He's a good coach who is better served in the college game.
22.0% He's not special, but didn't get much help from the front office, either.
11.9% He's a good coach at any level; it just didn't work out with Golden State.
9.3% He's been among the worst in the NBA the last two seasons.

3) Does Don Nelson still have what it takes as a head coach to turn things around with the Warriors?

72.4% Yes
27.6% No

4) Which of the following statements best summarizes your thoughts on the Warriors' roster?

54.7% Some quality players, but still lacks significant frontcourt depth
25.8% Very talented and should be a playoff team
19.4% Not close to playoff-caliber; a couple stars make them only occasionally dangerous

5) In 2007, will the Warriors make the playoffs for the first time in 13 years?

59.2% No
40.8% Yes

Espn poll, my answers in bold

its back to the good old days! run and gun with no D! just the way I like it. (no, i'm not kidding. Defense makes the game boring)

I completely disagree, slow down offense and trying to limit the opponents shots is boring.
There are teams that run and play D, the more D they play the more they win.

At this point I'll take wins over run and gun.

Nellie is just back in order to groom Mario Ellie as the warriors coach of the future, look at what he did to Avery Johnson in dallas, a few years under him and now look, he is one of the best coaches in the game today. Baron and Richardson are one of the best backcourts in the NBA and now with the run and gun, the offense will flourish but they still are the warriors and if they do reach the playoffs, have no chance to compete with the elite teams in the western conference.

blah baron is disappointing IMO. He's a high percentage injury player and sometimes doesn't seem like he gives 100% effort in every game.

That's why the Warriors only played real basketball in November. The rest of last season, they basically just fell asleep.

ditching Montgomery was a start, but bringing Nellie in isn't the answer. "Warriors" brass is very likely just buying time w/the move.....trying to throw the unruly fans calling for Monty's head a bone & either hoping to put Elie at the helm some day or are praying another coach will want sign on to guide the squad.

as for B-Diddy & J-Rich being one of the top backcourts in the L, that was the plan, but, as much as I've always been a fan of Baron, dude just hasn't come through. He's too wrapped up w/his off-court interests, incl his entertainment biz production company, and still hasn't matured enough on the court.

again, i've always been a B-Diddy fan because dude could be a straight baller if his mind and BODY were right, but, until he learns to keep his body in better shape & stop jacking up crazy 3's+long range J's, it's not going to be pretty.

Honestly, I don't think Montgomery was a bad coach. He was just coaching a "bad" team. Heck, I bet that even if u put Phil Jackson as head coach of the warriors, he would've had a similar record.
Even though the Warriors have a "playoff" calibur team, everybody just isn't contributing like they should (some notables include Dunleavy and Murphy and Davis).
Look at Rick Adelman when he coached the warriors, wasn't a bad coach, just had a bad team. Then got shipped to the Kings and he did very well for the time he spent there.

Plus Mario Ellie becoming the warriors head coach is a bad start to a new coaching career in the nba. Heck, just look at Montgomery lol

Montgomery was/is a very good COLLEGE coach, but it's painfully evident that the guy was having trouble getting acclimated to the pro ranks. That includes the game itself, players, & lifestyle. Granted, he had no pro experience coming in & had to learn on the job, but that basically put him behind the 8-ball right off the bat.

The "Warriors" fans have been/are frustrated w/the squad+organization's long-standing futility & blunders and rightfully so. They need someone w/ experience, that will command the respect of the young players, and especially that can guide them down the stretch in close games because none of the players are really able (dare I say, "smart enough"...basketball-wise anyways) to go about things on their own.

btw, last season's "Warriors" squad as a whole is actually more talented than the Lakers' (they still are) Yet, Phil Jackson was able to come back and help bring the Lake Show outa the dumps. Of course the W's don't have a Kobe, but who does??? Seriously, if PJ or any other top-notch coach was manning the W's squad, there'd be a marked improvement. The problem is that no coach of that caliber wants anything to do w/Golden State, and you can't really blame them.
