Want some exhaust input

I'm thinking about having a friend fabricate an exhaust for me but I wanna get some input from everyone to see what the easiest/cheapest way to go about doing it. I want to have a full 3" turboback exhaust with a 3" tip and I will buy a catted downpipe. Would I be better off buying an exhaust expense wise? Does anyone know anybody in the bay area that does exhausts?

I already searched the forums and on google, found a few things on google

Thanks

If you're looking for a custom muffler setup you could go to either Minute Muffler in Dublin.

Minute Muffler Service - Dublin, CA

or go see Gabe @ Precision Muffler in Milpitas.

Precision Muffler & Brake - Milpitas, CA

If you're just looking for a good deal on a name brand exhaust you can just watch the Classifieds as people sell exhausts all the time.

I agree, your best deal is most likely going to be to pick up a used one on the classifieds.

I think it depends on what you ultimately want done. My friend did a complete setup on his VW at Minute Muffler and it's really nice quality setup, but it was definitely a lot less expensive than what he would have ended up paying for a dual exhaust setup for his car.

When I got a hold in my catback I went over to Gabe and it only cost me about $20 to have him fix it for me so I'd imagine you could get the setup for a pretty reasonable cost, but definitely talk to both places and see what they can do for you based on what setup you want to go with.

Every car registered in CA NEEDS to have a muffler. Without one, you will be pulled over constantly!

Alright, i'll check it out, how could I describe how I want it? Bring in a picture of a standard turboback or what?

If you have something specific in mind (like mimicking a specific exhaust) then you can bring in a picture of that exhaust, but if you don't know what you want you can just talk to them and they can walk you through what they can do for the setup for you.

ive had no muffler for over a year now and have not been pulled over for my exhaust once, and when i was pulled over for other reasons, there was no questions about my exhaust..but my car is silver, wingless, painted stock wheels and while i have a straight pipe cbe, the tip is flat black and looks semi stock so i kind of stay away from cop attention

anyways, i had gabe at precision do my axleback for me and it was a little under $200 for piping, exhaust tips and labor (i had a 3" midpipe from my hks hipower and had him make me a axleback with magnaflow tips at the end)

he had a poster with all types of tips he could get, i picked one, he mocked it up and let me tell him the angle and placement of the tips and if i was happy with the bends and placement before he welded it

if you want pics you can pm me your phone number and i can text you pictures

Hmm I'm thinking about doing a straight pipe axel-back exhaust... How loud is it with stock piping?

You can find a used dp for ~$100, you can find a used catback for 250-350 depending.

It would be a lot less of a hassle just to do that than have one custom made imo and its a lot easier to change stuff around if its not custom either.

Since you're a GD unless you're looking for something unique just get a catback off the classifieds. They come up often. Now if youre looking for stealth and quiet as hell... maybe a custom with multiple mufflers/resonators would do that job.

If it is as quiet as stock then it shouldn't be a problem. I've had exhaust for previous cars welded up as well.

CA. V.C. 27150 (a) Every motor vehicle subject to registration shall be equipped with an adequate muffler in constant operation and properly maintained to prevent any excessive or unusual noise, and no muffler or exhaust system shall be equipped with a cutout, bypass, or similar device.

CA. V.C. 27151 No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor of such vehicle so that the vehicle is not in compliance with the provisions of Section 27150 or exceeds the noise limits established for the type of vehicle in Article 2.5(commencing with Section 27200) of this chapter. No person shall operate a motor vehicle with an exhaust system so modified.
So obviously based on that, you can be pulled over for it. It is up to the cop whether or not to ticket you for it though. I've had to go to the Ref before to get my car tested for sound levels and it passed.
