Pretty sure I want want a military flat olive drab, possibly flat black... This is going to be a budget job so I'm going to be sanding the whole damn thing down myself with a power sander with the help of some friends...
I'm a newb to autobody paint so I'd love any help that you guys could provide.

BASF has a whole new line of flat colors Daniel, my painter (Image Autobody) in south city told me that a flat color is basically like doing a two stage paint job... so not that expensive at all if your body panels are clean. Flat paint with a flat clear basically

flat black is played out and if you rattle can it its gonna look ghetto over time. If you want a half way decent flat or satin black rattle can its gonna take a lot of paint and cost you just as much as shooting it. SEM for instance goes for about $16-18 a can and I have 4 on the roof of my caddy and its temporary.
I'd sand it with DA. Don't go to metal. Just get through the clear into the stock base. Then shoot it with a decent high build primer. Then hand sand it with 220 and 400 if you want it nice. Then paint it with a color.
If you want it to last I'd do a premixed 1 shot deal with the clear mixed into it. Something like hot rod flatz would work but read up on it as it doesn't always lay right if you follow the direction. I'd do primer. Base coat. Flattened primer. Then you get the color you want and you can control just how flat you want it.
That's what I'm doing on my caddy. Plus that way you can use metallics and pearls if you want.
If you have the skills and friends to help out it'll cost you $400-500 or so for materials and it'll be durable. Supplies are gonna run me about $800 or so I'm guessing as I'm doing gloss up top. Doing pearls with a small flake and a candy and using quality paints. Still not bad considering that's including the cost of sand paper, blocks and beer for my buddy.
If you go ghetto and rattle can it you'll be sorry in a year when it fades and looks like *** but you might pull it off for under $200.

If you do the sanding and aren't too **** you could probably find someone to do a 2 stage for you for cheap. Body shops need the work and something like that they can knock out in a few hours and don't have to sand. Couple hundred bucks after hours and boom. You're done.
I'm gonna do the engine bay and body of my car in my garage. The roof I'm doing at a shop booth as it'll be gloss with candy and possibly lace. You can rent them out for $100-200 a day.

That's great info, I'd kiss you if You were here.

Yeah, I know flat black is played out, or whatever... But the flat dark olive drab would be unique with black accents. and black wheels.

oops...
ment to say primer. base coat. flattened clear. Not flattened primer. haaaa.
remember.. all in one or 2 stage. Doing just a primer with fade and suck up moisture and look like *** over time. Doing just a base coat looks good for that flat look. Hot roders do it. But it's not very durable and has the same issues with collecting moisture and what not.
all in one or 2 stage it.
if you 2 stage it you can get any color you want. Just go to a paint shop. Give them the number. They'll mix it. Or if you have a shop do it they'll mix it. Then you pick how much flattener you want in the clear. Then bam.
so that color should be no problem.

Good point... i was actually just talking to my shop and they are hurting for business.... last time i talked to him i was talking about doing my bucket (90 integra) flat white.... basically it was just over a grand which isnt that bad for materials, prep and shooting...

I think it'd look good with black or gold wheels.
Seriously though. Interesting shade but it should flatten out nice and you can get some vinyl cut outs for it.
