VW and the Subaru

Note: I'm NOT talking about racing here.

It seems like when there's someone who doesn't like to be passed, or wants to make sure you "don't lose them", or doesn't want to be "out cornered", or seems to want to street race (I don't)... a lot of times it's a VW.

A GTI, R32, or Passat.

I'm not into street racing, so I ignore them. But I get the "feeling" that Veedubs look at Subies (WRX's) as "rivals".

Or am I off my rocker?

it seems to me the veedub crowd is anti-japanese, not just suby. I guess those anti-rice commercial worked on them.

Yeah, I think it has to do with the driver and vehicle price range more than make of car. People with modified cars that cost less than about 20 k new or so tend to be more of the younger crowd and more inclined to streetrace. Some Examples of driver stereotypes being hondas, srt-4's mustangs, celicas etc. There's some idiot who drives like a total a55hole in my town who drives a silver subie simailar to mine who an untrained eye might mistake for my car. That doesn't make me feel too good, I saw a for sale sign on it last time though...

I've just noticed that these people tend (not all) to be the most unskilled drivers, but think they are. Jerky movements and really bad lines abound.

The worst are annoying SUV's who floor it on the straights to pass you and then have to slow down to granny to get around turns so they don't flip over. They end up passing me, cutting me off, then blocking me in the turn. Annoying.

I've lived in SF for ~10 years. After I moved out, everybody on the road outside of SF seems to be pretty nice.

I usually get it from C230/C240 drivers and boxter drivers when I had my car. I just ignore 'em.

I dunno about the VW thing. I never found much of a challenge from even audis and minis when I had my jetta up in the mountains. I drive much safer in my subie, but only because I like my subie haha.
