I use to fly in and out of John Wayne International, and that is nothing. At JWI, they run the motors up to full, drop the brakes, go to the 1/2 mark on the runway, then stand the plane almost on its tail and go from ground to 5000 feet in less than a mile, because of the noise abatement laws in the area.

On southwest they have some seats that look backwards, and you can see everyone panic, the stewardess use to have toilet paper roll races down the isle during takeoff.

hahah that is awesome, reminds me of our office chair races we used to have in the hangar deck when i was in the navy and we would come back from Japan up toward the Aleutian Islands. 30 degree rolls will send you flying acoss the deck

Being from The Real OC I can concur. Pretty awesome ride, actually.

iirc, don't they also throttle back for a few seconds after takeoff in order to 'coast' over those areas with the noise abatement laws as well? The result is hearing the engine noise fade out, the plane dipping a bit, and then the engines throttling back up.
