vrrrrRRRR PSSSHH (not good)

no, I don't have a BOV, which is why I was scared ****less when my car made that sound. I was at about 4k rpm when I heard *PSSHH* and then the car wasn't happy. I immediately braked and pulled over and the car really wasn't happy. I turned it off and turned it back on, and it started up but barely had any RPMs going and was about to die, so I turned it off.

I get out of the car, but since it was 12:30 AM I can't see ****, so I get back in the car and call AAA to tow me to my house. Of course it takes them like half an hour to get to me, so I have plenty of time to sit and think of whats broken, how much it'll cost, and what I can sell to help cover the price. I was scared ****less that I blew the motor or something, but kept trying to convince myself that the *PSSHH* sound made it seem more like some hose blew off that I just couldn't see yet. But everyone knows in a situation like that you're thinking worst possible scenario.

Anyways, tow truck driver gets that and tows it to my house (1:30-1:45AM by now) and puts it next to the garage so I can kind of see what I'm doing and get to work even though its ****ing cold.

I grab my tools and remove the intercooler, and while doing so look at every hose I can see to try to find one that came off, but had no luck.

Finally I get the intercooler off and see this...

The silicone y-pipe I had ripped apart down the side...no es bueno. By now it's like 2:15AM but I knew I had the stock one in the shed, so I got to dig around there will only a little wimpy flashlight, finally found it and got it put on (stock one is a ***** to put on I found out). The car started up fine and I was able to put it in the garage, but I haven't taken it for a real drive yet. Anybody think the short time the pipe was busted could do any damage?

I think it was GP Moto. I bought it from a friend at Mt Hammy '05 (very first mod I did to the car) so its definitely an old pipe thats seen some miles, but still shouldn't fail like that

No it shouldn't. That's kind of strange, but I don't think it's a big concern.

Your car will be fine, like someone said you just experienced a major boost/vaccum leak.

Weak how the hose just failed like that! That's def a first for me, I've never seen that happen before. Just goes to show you that you get what you pay for! I used to by off-brand for my RS when I used to drive it and most of the crap I'd buy would fail... So I leared and decided to buy quality parts for my WRX as it saves mucho headache in the long run. I'd rather pay more now and have piece of mind than save money now and have to replace/stress about things later.

*shrug*

(PS: Yes, I do realize that even quality parts fail, but their track record is much better than knock offs... sucks cuz that hose wasn't super cheap either, but it is a knock off from the samco hoses.)

Live and learn.

if this is so rare, I might have to mount the hose on the wall of my room

the car drove just fine on the way to and from class today. I didn't know much about what parts were quality parts, and what weren't. I bought it off of a buddy at the 2005 Mt Hammy meet, which was only a few months after I got the car, so that pipe has like 50k+ miles on it. I'll be upgrading to a Samco or maybe look in to an STi intercooler, don't they have metal y-pipes?

man I must have blown IC hoses about 20 times now. I just blew hard - twice in a row - in the middle of dyno pull last week.

You're totally fine It just feels like you damaged your car
