VENDOR'S vs. "the other guy"
VENDOR'S vs. "the other guy"
I agree that people should help one another (the beauty of forum boards), that is what we as vendor’s do but we charge for our work:
1. Because we are a reputable company
2. There is a liability working on cars
3. We have the proper state/local licenses, insurance, KNOWLEDGE, etc...
Us vendors will never get peoples business if there’s people undercutting the vendor shops for mod installs. Some are not experienced enough, nor should they be allowed to charge for work, forums are for discussion (a how to if you will). THAT’S WHY WE PAY MONTHLY TO BE VENDOR'S.
*Remember us "Vendor's" have overhead, license fees, RENT, etc...I would say most Vendor's would agree that installs although the typical person views expensive, it just barely pay's the bills. We have set prices and if you notice all Vendor's are somewhat the same price, that's because we're not trying to make a killing on this, we're just charging what is fair.
*I understand people want cheap work but when it's a moving vehicle going at a high rate of speed, I hope you trust who you just had work on your car

Yea i know where your coming from and for work on say engine swaps, tranny's, or maybe brakes since they are a major safety factor on a car. But when its comes to parts of an exhaust system where there are no moving parts it's not neccessarly a danger. Also for those expierenced in doing uppipe installs (10+ cars) its gets pretty easy and the install is a breeze.

But some of these things the people end up paying twice to have the issue (if any) rectified. I agree, exhaust is not a "liability" in the sense of your car is going to go out of control and kill someone but at the same time, you can do things incorrectly and engines can break because of it. That's why we carry insurance, if in an event we do something wrong....We fix it for our customer.
It's all on how you look at it

What brought this rant on?
But I agree. Cutting corners on important work will only lead to problems. When Joe Shadetree installs your uppipe and breaks something, do you think he'll make it right?

Just saw those...(lol @ puncturing the gas tank with a jackstand)...
Vendors should just think of it as an opportunity to earn new loyal customers when someone comes in needing their "cheap install" fixed by the professionals.

And another thing...do you really WANT a customer who is that cheap and unconcerned with quality of work? Seems like a waste of time.
I had all the too-difficult-to-do-in-my-carport work done by local vendors, and I've had ZERO issues with the installs (up, turbo, injectors). The money was well spent, not to mention the fact that they were super fast.
