Vegetable racer?

Alright, tell me if this is just a lame idea from the get go :
I hate paying so much for gas. period. Its totally rediculous, and i dont support the companies that sell it to me. Soooooo...
What i want to do, is take a turbo deisel jetta or the like and set it up basically for autocross. Tight suspension, the works - but what? Run it off vegetable oil? I know i know, the power would be absolutley pathetic, but if tuned up to the MAX you could *potentially* get "decent" horsepower out of it. I think it would be interesting to attempt somthing like this, i mean, yes, right now they run like crap - but there is nothing like a little bit of racing development to refine things and get them working a little more efficiently. I dont know, i guess it would be more of an interesting experiment than anything... plus it would be cool to see a greasel without a tofu gobbling hippie behind the wheel.
what do you think?

have no idea - totally hypothetical. I need to do more reading on how much HP the stock deisels make, then see how much of a power hit they take when you make the switch to vegetable oil. I wouldnt expect to have a hotrod right off the bat, nor to perform anywhere near gas or deisel. But the idea of having a quick little car that gets amazing mileage, runs off grease, and ALSO performs great is just such a cool idea, im seriously tempted to buy an old jetta or rabbit and start tinkering.
I'm all for Biodiesel. Here's a helpful website:
Biodiesel
A modern diesel car does not have to be highly modified to run on biodiesel. Actually, the diesel engine was origionally designed to run on vegetable based fuel. Burns clean to and leaves a nice sent of cooked food.

Biodiesel sucks.
We used it for a while in our fleets, and then swithced back to low sulfer diesel. The bio diesel has issues, such as growing fungus that clogs filters and pumps, clouding, extremely poor performance in cold weather, price, availability, and a ton of other issues.
Sounds like a fun project though.
