Vegas bday trip
I am planning on going to Vegas for my birthday in April. I have already booked the flights, but have not figured out what hotel to stay in. I want to stay on the strip at a place that is affordable. I am not sure if all my friends and I are going to cram into one room or two, but they are low on funds and I don't think we are planning on sleeping that much. Any recommendations?

i'd definitely look early for deals...on each of the hotel/casino webpages they have deals. Also, there are websites with forums where people post deals going on at the vegas hotels. Here are a few I've checked out:
http://www.earlyvegas.com/promo_codes.html
http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/topi...&newest=1#last
I stayed at Excalibur(south strip, on the strip) in a newly upgraded room with a 42" plasma for $130/night over V-day weekend.
Hooters is right next to Tropicana and both are good for cheap stays that are near everything.
From what I've heard Imperial Palace is cheap, but it still isn't worth the price you pay. I believe they only have one elevator in the place.
Most action on the strip is near the central/south strip areas. Circus Circus and Stratosphere are cheap but are on the North Strip and are soo far away from all the casinos that you'll want to hang out at, it's gonna suck if you stay at those hotels and try to walk the strip every day.
Over xmas I got a $52 room at Hooters and 4 guys piled in for the night. Only thing is they only have 2 twin bed rooms. No 2 queen rooms. Got that from i4vegas.com...only bad part of that site is it's pretty much non-refundable.
Have fun man

Sean,Its your bday, dont be cheap. Last month I stayed at the Palazzo which is the newest hotel on the strip. Its connected with the Venetian. The room was off the hook! 2 Queens, 2 Flat screens, even one in the bathroom. Super nice view too. If you;re planning to bring ladies back to you room (which is always on my to do list) motel 6 won;t cut it! THe price aint bad either if you're gonna bring a crew. Hell, you;re going to Vegas, Be prepared to spend Bread!

But yeah, I am not trying to be cheap, but I don't really plan on spending that much time in the room. So doesn't make sense to spend a fortune.

I ended up booking at the Excalibur. The rate was really nice and I was able to get a large room with two queens and a sitting area. I will let you guys know how it turns out. It's Vegas so I am sure I won't be spending much time in there anyways.

there's a free tram from the excalibur to the luxor and mandalay bay. Comes every 5 minutes and is worth it to get around those three hotels. If you're looking for cheap ($5) blackjack tables, I'd recommend the tropicana across las vegas blvd.
have a good time man...it's pretty hard not to with how much stuff there is to do.
also if you're a gun freak and feel like being a little crazy (maybe not with the chicas there) there's a sweet place just east on tropicana blvd. (one of the roads excalibur is on the corner of) where you can go and shoot almost any type of gun you can think of. if you feel like taking out some agression from the casinos taking all your money, it's your place!!

my money goes to the mgm signature hotel....
stayed there earlier in the year, hella sick. 37th flr was sweet, with views of casino's and walking distance to everything.
u can get flights out of stockton for $29 if u buy them a month or so in advance from allegent airlines (sp?)

Thanks everyone for the info. I was searching for flights out of SFO and came up with Southwest for the way there and Virgin America on the way back. I have traveled with VA before and enjoyed the experience, plus I have $25 off my ticket and a free drink coupon. I might check out that gun range, but I have a feeling I might have other things going on
