Well after sitting in my closet for a while, my VF34 kit is now on my car. A big thanks to the guys at MPJ performance/Speed element. They got it done sooner then expected. Definitely like the feel of it. But not happy with the COBB 'Off the shelf' map. Things need to be smoothed out. Having some boost surge at full boost. Goes to .12 and drops to .09 and kinda goes back and forth. Plus while at WOT, when getting close to redline, something starts to cut out just before it shifts (4EAT) Fuel cut maybe? So after the holidays I will be getting it tuned. Now that Mike at GST announced his opening, I will go there. For now I just won't do any 'spirited' driving.
On a side note, had a little fun today. Pulled into Target in Watsonville and get out and steam starts billowing out from my hood vent. Pop the hood and find the small upper hose that feeds (or returns from) the turbo is spraying antifreeze all over. Found a cut just behind the clamp. I was able to push it further onto the nipple to get past the cut and reclamp it. Got a new hose from Kragen and clamps. Just waiting for the engine to cool down now.

Hey Darren,
Thank you for the kudos! glad you were able to locate the issue and replace the hose.
If you need a tune, please contact Mike @ GST Motorsports. He will take care of you.
Thanks

Deffinately get a tune asap. That Cobb VF34 map runs very poorly from my experience. There is a lot of power and more importantly, response and drivability to be had from a custom tune.
Thanks

I didnt see on your list a high flow fuel pump. Unless you already have one. The stock cant put out what is needed.

I got the VF34 about 7 to 8 months ago and I too had the surge with the OTS map from cobb. I finally got a tuned from Ed " Mr. Method4" and drivability and power is much improved.. even when turbo is not boosting at lower rpms

aren't there quite a few VF34's out there with a boost creap problem...turbo issue? It's one reason why I decided my new turbo will probably be a baby 18g.
oh and darren...you drive a silver sti? What's your car look like?

I drive a WRB 02 WRX Sedan, Bronze 18" rims and CB Hood w/vents.
Actually you will see my Fiance driving around town in it more then me. We had to get rid of her corolla, so she drives my suby and I drive my F150

Not sure I've seen your car though. I have an 04 white wagon. Gold V7 wheels. JDM fogs. Fogs are easiest way to spot me..haa.

Thanks
that doesn't mean they do not exist...correct. How many have you tuned? 100, 1000? All of them?
I've personally read of AT LEAST 5 different cases of people having issues with VF34's. I LOVE that turbo and it's what I planned on going with until recently.
Just because you haven't seen it does not mean it does not exist. Me personaly I prefer no pissing match here. You're correct on your assesment on power and response, I'm correct on my choice because it is in fact my choice. I was just voiceing something I had heard and read about concerning that turbo. simple as that.
me personally...if I come across a vf34 on the cheap when I have the dough I'll get it. Have it cleaned up and roll with it. Great turbo. If not...then I'll get whatever else is available that I feel will meet my needs at given time of me having the funds.
Shoot, right now I'm just waiting for my engine to blow up.
