Trying to sell a car with no pink slip.

I've got a '71 510 that im trying to get rid of (sorry for all i flaked on, but this is why i didnt sell it), but i can't find the title - does anyone know the steps i need to take to do so? Is there anything i can do at DMV? The lady i got it from says she gave me one, and i did sign a few things - but the pink slip isnt in my paperwork. Can i sell the car only if it is for racing purposes? It's damn near a race car already...

So, am i pretty much out of luck?

TIA.

There should have been some paperwork you had to mail into the DMV. If that took place, DMV would have the record of you owning the car. You should be able to go to DMV as ask for a copy of the title. Good luck.

Or you can just go into DMV and see if the car is actually under your name.

If you really did have the title at one time, then the car should be in your name. This makes the process
much eaiser. There is a form at the DMV for when you don't have the title. You can sell the car without
it, but the person who is buying it will have to trust you because without a real title, the car could be
owned by someone else. In this case the buyer would be the one who is own3d!

Go to the DMV and wait in the information line. They will have the forms you need to sell it.

If you really just want to get rid of it, all you need to do as the seller is sign a bill of sale and get
a release of liability filled out on the new owner.

Don't worry you aren't out of luck but either way you are going to need a title on the car. Here is the form you will need: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/forms/reg/reg343.htm You can either print that one out or you can go into the DMV and pick one up. If you are already on file as the current owner then all you need to do is fill out the form and pay a few bucks then they will send you a new one in the mail. If you had pulled the registration on the vehicle then I would personally go down to the DMV and talk to someone about registering it as a race car. Hope this helps let me know if you need anymore help I used to be a DMV clerk at a dealership.
