Trying to buy a Subie
Hey everyone...
I am kinda new at this and I am trying to find a Subie to buy and I found this one online:
"2002 Impreza Wrx sedan, 16k. miles, Rally Blue, 5 speed, 227 horse power, 16 inch rims, 6 cd changer and cassette player, excellent condition in and out. This vehicle has a blown Gasget. the estimated cost to fix this vehicle, Parts and Labor, is Around $1,500. this car has a salvage title because it was vandalized; everything has been repaired there is no body damage to this car.
$9,995/best offer."
I was just wondering how bad this was exactly? I would appreciate it if you helped me out! Thanks so much!

I think it really depends on how long youplan on keeping the car. If you want a suby that you're gonna be keeping for a whiles, I would definately look into it. With the amount of i-freaks around here, anything that goes wrong can be fixed really quickly and easily. I would definately consider it, unless you want something that you'll end up getting rid of soon, in which case like said ealier, salvage=ghey!

Two things to check as well:
1) Most banks don't loan money for salvaged cars (in case you don't have cash)
2) Different insurance premium for salvaged cars (not all places but it is at AAA)

True... I never thought about resale value and and that junk. Thanks guys, but you have to admit that it is a very unbeatable price. I am having a hard time finding one though. I really want an 02 or 03 cause I like front better, but they are so hard to come by because Subies are such great cars why would anyone wanna get rid of it or trade it in. It sucks!

Yes everything that should be said has already been said so I think I'll summarize:
1. Are you financially sound and can take out about 15 grand from your bank account right now without dipping into emergency savings?
2. Are you reasonably well versed with general automotive concepts?
3. Do you have a job which requires a large and inflexible time commitment?
If the 1 and 2 are yes and 3 is no, go ahead if you can take the risk.
Salvage titles = GREAT deals for the people who have the inside know-how.
If 3 is yes, it may definately be a headache for you but by all means if you are passionate go for it...
Personally, I think this car is in bad enough shape that I would buy a 2.5 RS for the money and work from there. just imo though.

insurance looks at a salvaged car different, the premium is usually higher if i remember correctly.
it can be considered salvage it if it was stolen and replace, if it was stolen and strip, vandalized or whatever. it's still consider salvage and insurance doesn't really care....someone correct me if i'm wrong

ummmm if it has a blown headgasket it would be a safe bet to say that the motor has been thrashed on REALY HARD.
trust me it isnt easy to blow a headgasket on an 02...
