is this true about intakes?

...We simply refuse to provide remapped ECUs for cars with aftermarket intakes unless in-house custom dyno tuning is performed. And even then, there is absolutely no benefit (as far as performance goes) of running the intake. But there is an extra hour of tuning free incurred since I have to revise the entire fuel table to compensate for the MAF sensor misreadings that the particular intake induces. Just not worth it unless one must have the sound or the underhood look that the intake provides.
whoa can this be true? intake does nothing? i read the following posts but i just want someone to slap me and tell me this is true.

Yes, intakes do squat for WRX's from what I know.

Chris,

Running a open element type filter (doesn't have a cover, you can see the filter with your eyes) like a conical K&N won't really help performance per say, cause no matter the intake temp from the filter (unless it's like hella hot), the turbo is going to heat that **** up waaaaaaaay hot anyways. HOWEVER, running an open element filter DOES improve sound! Intake noise is hear, meaning more spool sound and more BOV sound. So, for me, it would be worth it to pick up a short ram intake with an open element end.

As your buddy, let me direct you to www.mpjperformance.com

Pick up a Perrin Short Ram or MRT Rampod intake!

Or even that snazzy Blitz SUS intake... it's pretty badass.

(but don't rally around in your car, don' want to get too much dirt in that intake)

Consider yourself slapped.

This has been discussed on various message boards and a search will produce the threads to read. Since a number of tuners have come to a similar conclusion based on the thread you cited, I think that it doesn't do any real harm to run an intake. If you like the way it looks and sounds then go for it. I just change the element once a year and the factory intake works fine for me.

Get a boost gauge before you increase the boost. If the gauge is built into the EBC (electronic boost controller) make sure you can see it when you're driving - under the dash is too low to watch the readout and drive safely. I wouldn't exceed 16 pounds of boost on an otherwise unmodified WRX.

Interms of intakes, get something from MPJ

Other than that, I'd say skip the boost controller for now.

Get a UP/DP... um, also availble from MPJ...

You got an exhaust yet?

what time are you going?

Don't worry about stock boost spikes... Get Intake, UP, DP, and a cat back and that should smooth out the car well.

Catback suggestion: Stromung, 2.5", Stainless Steel... for the deep boxer note, torque and power.

Oh, and run some good gas... and remember, PREMIUM ONLY!

I suggest Chevron or 76. However, i think chevron gives better gas mileage, as ehtanol sure does burn quicker than MTBE!

Don't buy an intake.

The most restrictive part of the WRX intake is.....the TURBO!

If you're gonna do anything to help breathing, replace the stock uppipe, and install silicone intercooler hoses....those mods show up on tha dyno, yo!
