Owner-Operators do

BTW, been to the Iowa 80 Truck Stop mentioned in the article. Place is friggin HUGE, their INSIDE showroom has several semi tractors in it! If it lights up or blings and someone sells it for a truck, it is in that showroom

Now if these guys were making such threats we might have something to worry about;

http://www.teamster.org/

but they're not, so it probably won't amount to more than a day of protest here and there for indy owner operators who don't have anything better to do.

Fact is the rising cost of diesel will make everything you buy more expensive. It's the indy truckers who feel the pinch first because they don't have fuel purchase contracts and special volume pricing that the big guys do. But we're all going to feel it one way or another.

The price of unleaded is mostly irrelevant unless you're commuting long miles. Having your gas bill go up 10 or even 20% probably won't cost you as much in the end as the cost of everything else you buy going up 5% because of rising transport costs. As always, your mileage will vary

State of CA is stoked. They're making GRIP on taxes.

Government isn't gonna do jack crap to stop the increase in tax prices. The higher it goes the more tax money they get. They're in a deficite and are gonna **** us anyway they can.

This man speaks the truth. I'm sure many here remember the late 70's/early 80's.

Devaluation = inflation...

Not buying gas for a day is stupid. Yeah it's a statement but oil companies know you'll just go out the next day and fill up. No lose of revenue.

haha... I'm sure many here couldn't remember anything from that time.

Who remembers only being able to buy gas on even or odd days?

You can't blame the truckers... have you seen the price of diesel lately? Over $4 a gal. Most of those trucks have 200 gal tanks, and they get 6-10 miles a gal...

Truckers that work near mexico will make the trip to get diesel at $2/gal.

I work at the port and it is easy to see that most owner-operators are having a hard time making it. The cost of fuel is not only making the cost of trucking increase, but also the whole shipping process. Before goods get into the port they are shipped from another country. Ships are even worse on efficiency, but it is still the cheapest way to move something across the ocean. (Economies of scale, airplanes are very expensive)
