I use generic non-synthetic GL5 75w90 gear oil in the transmission and Redline synthetic 75w90 gear oil for the rear diff.

Transmission holds 3.8q
Rear diff holds 0.8q

yea it's the same paul. I used 1 qt of synchromesh, and 2.7 of valvoline 75w90 for the tranny, and .7 for the rear tranny.

Been running on that mix for ~25k miles now. I did the tranny before with JUST valvoline and my 1st gear kept on grinding.

GM dealers charge a lot for their branded synchromesh. Look for Pennzoil brand, it's the same thingand cheaper.

I am thinking of going with the Redline 75w90NS next time. I think that the NS part equals what syncromesh does.

running the same as above (1 qt syncmesh + 2.7 valvaoline 75w90).

GM synchromesh = pennzoil synchromesh.

yeah. The synchromesh that the dealers sell is actually made by Penzoil. Just go to a local store like autozone and pick a qt up for about 5-6 bucks.

Not sure about the NS for the tranny, but use the regular redline 75w90 for the rear diff. IIRC... the NS comes without friction modifiers. The rear diff can benifit from friction modifiers.

so quick question, if i may hijack, and benefit form the BAIC gurus. one time i called into a dealer and asked if i could buy OEM tranny fluid. he said he doenst sell by the quart and that i can just go to any autostore and get any 80w90 weight. so if im running 80w90, is that bad?
