Toyotas (I know wrong place for this)

I'm getting a 4 runner and it needs to have the 22re rebuilt, anyone know any good shops that are good with toyotas?

Wayland did a JDM swap for my buddies old MR2.

This was like years ago but IIRC Wayland takes his time to make sure the work is done right the first time around.

And if there are any problems he makes things right.

Also try Performance Options in Oakland. They recently swapped my cousins' 22re with a 22rte, super into oldschool toyotas.

Marlins is a fantastic shop, they know exactly what they are doing... On that a few suggestions.

1)Make 100% sure whoever does your rebuild, uses the 83 22r timing chain NOT the 84 and on one. The 83 uses metal guides, and is a double chain, its far superior to the post 83 units that are single chain and use nylon guides.

2)Don't screw around with trying to "go big". Built it stock, and if your going to wheel it, just run a dual t-case (marlin crawler).

3)why not just buy my 4runner

Personally, I have a yota and it's probably cheaper for you to just buy a longblock from a shop that sells motors from japan and just drop it in, less hassle and can be done in one day.

Most of them are built with crap china built cranks, low grade non standard cams and bearings, and won't last past 50,000 miles. I urge most to stay away from the "built out longblocks". If you are going to go this route, get a crate motor directly from toyota.

I love marlin and I know they do great work. This is my 4th yota and I'm getting it for a good price and its an 85 with efi and the solid front axle. I want to do the 3rz motor swap but I don't have the time or money at the moment. I basically want the cheapest option to get me by until I can do the swap

I can turn you onto a guy in utah that does CA smog legal 7m-gte conversions

7mgtes are bad for crawling though, good top end poor low end

Just swung by the pacific one and it doesn't exist anymore lol

I can tell you, with 100% fact, that your statement is BS. I own one of the only 7M-GTE 4runners in the state of CA, and it crawls better than anything short of the V8 conversions.

You have to remember the 7M block is a truck block, originally designed for the land cruzer not the supra. Trust me, has tons of low end torq, so much so you need cro-mo axles and a good strong cryo'ed R&P or you will be picking up bits off the trail.

I have a friend in the midwest who put in an 8mgte and he said he wish that he'd not gone the turbo route, though he might have had a bigger turbo and lag to go with it.

I checked the toy shop and they're actually the most expensive quote that I've gotten so far, almost 2gs for the motor and then 800 to install. The guy did seem pretty cool but he said a 3rz swap would take too much of their time to do because its too custom.

that's why you swap in marlin's dual crawler box conversion kit from a A240H to an A240F tranny...
