totaled

So i got in a accident on tuesday night after school. I was driving home on 85 to get onto 280 south. There was a older model pickup truck to left of me and i was on the right lane. ( 2 lane) the truck was a little ahead. What i didnt notice was that there was wood blocks in his bed. The blocks flew out when he started turning a few went under my car and one hit my side veiw completely off. The car started sliding and hit the guardrail. The guardrail ended and the car spun out avoiding the dirt. Talked to my insurance on friday, car has about 9k worth of damage suspension and exterior. Then we noticed the axle popped out of the tranny, my question is will they total the car? i would rather not have the car totaled bu the estimate is going to be around 15k after the tranny? So what would the going rate be for an 07 sti with 36000 miles. I dont want to be short handed by the insurance so any help would be appreciated. I should have pics up by tonight or tomorow morning. If you have my number jsut text me i can text you the pictures... just happy i came out with some bruises

Also sorry to hear about your car: I can image something like that would be pretty nerve wracking.

What is the general procedure for retrieving aftermarket parts from a car after it is totalled? I have parts insurance, but they dont let the pay out exceed the car value, so it does me no good if I total it (basically it only helps if I get in a minor crash where after market parts are damaged but car is not totalled). Can you have the car at your house while the insurance company decides what they want to do, or do they have it in some storage yard of theirs? Is the only way to buy it back from ins.?

damn sorry to hear! but yeah, depends on your insurance company, some total out when the repair exceeds 51% of the vehicles value, some hold out till 80%. In any case, you would be better off if its pretty bad to get it totaled out since our subys tend blue book for quite a bit more than the sell for on the street. I would imagine your 07 would still book in the high 20's even though the street price is in the low to mid 20's. And just imagine if they didnt total it, when it comes time to sell if someone runs the carfax and sees that big of a repair its going to be worth even less!

my advice, take it to an expensive shop, get the settlement and keep the wreck, sell it (to me!) and buy a 2011

Holy **** Jazz, Luckily you're ok and it sounds like you stayed rubber side down, which is always good. Did you at least get the plates off the truck? I would think (and hope) that it gets totaled. Yeah, insurance is going to be kind of a ***** to have with a total on your record but it's nice to jump into a new car. and not one that has been extensively repaired.

You can go to where the car is located and take parts as long as you replace them with stock (other) parts. When I totaled my first Suby, I had a stereo and short shifter installed. I went into the tow yard (after talking to my insurance about it and they said ok) and took out the stereo and shift and installed the original factory stereo and shifter. At the time I had Allstate insurance.
