Too soon to sell my car?

For the last year I've been driving my company car (04 Impala) and my Suby has been assigned to weekend duty. I really don't need the car for any practical reasons anymore. I just drive it on the weekend for fun. And I can do without the monthly payments, insurance, gas, etc.

Here's my concern. I was rear ended 8 months ago and there was about $9K in damage (body panels only, no frame damage). Insurance payed for full OEM replacement parts at Capital Collison in San Jose. I still owe $12,500 on the car and I don't know if I can get that much for it now since it's been wrecked. Here's some more details.

Model:
2003 WRX
Silver
33,000 miles

Exterior mods:
EDM Headlights

Power mods:
Bosal up pipe
OEM STI down pipe (gutted)
Borla Hush catback
Samco i/c hoses (black)

So do you guys think I can get $12,500 for the car as is?

just keep it. pay it down to about 8k and refinance it and your payments will be so much less.

I'll second the Miata idea. If it's just a weekend car, it should be RWD and light/small IMHO.

You can definitely, and should, part out the car. You can get like 350 for the Borla Hush because eeeeeveryone wants one, and it's a pretty hot item. You can also try to trade somoene + cash for the headlights. Most people don't care if your car is modded when buying used, they won't pay more just because it is modded. Also, people will wanna paly with the whole it's been in an accident thing, but just reassure them it's been fixed and no frame damage etc...the car shouldn't go down in value that much JUST because it's been hit. I think people use it as a haggling tool. Put it up on craigslist, see what kinda responses you'll get. If you wait long enough, someone will come along and buy it, you just have to patient. Especially since it's such low mileage. GL! (craiglist and autotrader is where i looked when we found my friend's used car)

Almost same situation happened to me. I bought my 06 black WRX for a commute car, but a week later I began working from home and I'm planning on continuing which means I hardly drive it. I only use it on the weekends for fun. I went all the way and put it on craigslist listed at $22,000.

It's an 06 black WRX with only 10k miles. Modes include: Swift springs, STi trunk with spoiler, tinted windows and 18" wheels. The car is spotless!

I did get a few calls but chickend out. I love my suby! Now I'm having second thoughts and thinking of re-listing it on craiglist again.

That was probably me. I take it to work every once in a great while. The company is SMC Corp. off First and Orchard just before Montague. All of the Chevys you see are company cars for the sales guys, myself included. Everybody has a damn Equinox or Pontiac Gran *****.

Thanks for noticing though

damn you still owe 12grand?

please tell me you didnt buy the car new in 03

either way good luck on the sale, subarus are no hondas and its resale has always sucked huge!

when it comes to the value of our subarus im seriously confused....

i see 98 gsrs hold their value so well along with so many other hondas and seriously the subaru wrx is so much more car but yet a 3 year wrx is valued at about half of what it was new...

I bought it in May of 05 with 17K on the clock for 21K out the door. Might not have been the best deal, but I bought it out of impulse.

My only regret is that I didn't wait to find one in Aspen White.

if you do decide to sell it, like SkylineR35GTRx said you should definitely part it out and sell the car in the stock form. you will gain some cash and most likely be able to sell the car for the same price. just my .02

Whatever gets you through the day. Miata's are lightweight, RWD and relatively inexpensive to work/wrench on. There's a reason there's an entire series for the little buggers
