Tire question
So i don't know much about tires but i do know i need some new ones.
Currently i have 225/45ZR17 94YXL khumo ecstas which were on the car when in bought it. I was looking in to the yokohama parada spec-2s but they dont have it in the 225 45 17 sizing. what does the 225 pertain to. could i just 205 45 17 on wheels that used to use 225. Also i happened to notice the hankook r-s2 (which they have in my previous sizing) thread and looked into those but can't find them at local shops only on tire rack. I would imagine its pretty easy to put tires on but have never done it before. is that a naive assumption?
Thanks,
Scott

225/45R17 means...
225 is the width of the tire in millimeters.
45 is called the 'aspect ratio' - the sidewall is 45% the width of the tire.
17 is the rim size.
So, what does this all mean to you? Read on to find out!
Your tire is 225mm wide - roughly 8.85826 inches wide (25.4mm/inch).
The tire height overall can also be figured out fairly easily.
[(225x.45)/25.4] x 2 + 17 = overall height or... ~24.97244"
This information can be all sorts of useful when trying to determine another tire size that you can use on your vehicle. All of this is probably more information than you wanted and it might not even answer your question. I did enjoy using my brain for part of the day, though. Thank you for that.
Tires require specialty mounting and balancing equipment out of the price range of most enthusiasts and private parties. It can also be dangerous. Take them to a shop and spend the money to have them done right.
