Red face Tips on exhaust?

I'm sure someone started a thread like this before, sorry I didn't go searching around. So I'm looking into buying a exhaust for my 05 sedan, I saw a few such as apexi gt spec, blitz nur spec r, hks hi power, and hks carbon ti. I was wondering which ones you guys think is the best sounding, giving me more of a boxer rumble. I know all the exhausts I listed is loud as hell, from what people have told me, and quite honestly, I'm sure I'm gonna end up with a fix it ticket down the road somewhere if I get the new exhaust. Just looking for opinions, thanks.

best would be to find someone with the exhaust you are looking for and hear the cars/exhausts in person...

i had an hks hi power with stock dp and i thought it sounded great, had a deep sound and most importantly still sounded clean and not fart like or droning, wasnt too much of a fan of the angled canister though

I picked up an old Scorpion Oval axle back (similar to Prodrive's oval). It's pretty subdued, would sound great with a catted downpipe or shorty. Listen to Slugrx though, it's better to listen to a few setups than spend a good chunk of cash and be let down.

Just do a 3" pipe with an electric cutout. That way you can set whatever volume you want

But IMO I think the HKS Carbon Ti is ****ing **** when it comes to exhausts, I am just bummed they don't make one for the new models and I cannot bring myself to butcher one.

Honestly don't think anyone can give you "tips", only recommendations of what exhaust they find personally pleasing to hear. Narrow it down from the looks you want. Melon shooter or stock styled, ti tip, and go from there. Sound factor also comes into play. Best to just give a listen in person with someone who has a similar setup that you want to run, sound clips are usually marginally off. Good luck on your search!

My strong recomendation is leave it stock until you can go to a big meet and hear some different styles.

I've heard many different exhausts, and the one I have right now is probably my 1st favorite out of 2. 2nd being the HKS Carbon Ti. I just hate how the exhaust isn't full Ti like my Trust PE Ti-R.

However my exhaust is probably the loudest out of 3 other exhausts.

It all depends on what you like; style, performance, sound, price, material etc.

Apex GT spec is louder than the Hi Power and Carbon Ti. Carbon Ti is essentially the same as the Hi Power (which is mild steel piping coated with black paint), except it is full stainless steel piping, a titanium tip, and carbon fiber wrap on the muffler canister. It's also a tad louder than the Hi Power and gives louder afterfires. Blitz Nur Spec is on par with the GT Spec in loudness.

That being said, if your car is stock, a Hi Power is loud enough, but still falls under the 95 dB range, though barely. I know because I was pulled over and sent to the state ref for it. It passed the dB test, although it was borderline. I'm not sure about the Carbon Ti though. One thing to note, since the Hi Power has black paint coated on the pipe, it's a tad stealthier than the rest of the exhaust u listed. I say a tad, because it hides the piping from police following behind u. But, the big shiny muffler still sticks out like a sore thumb.

Out of the exhaust u listed, the Blitz is the only one that's straight angled, vs the others which are angled.

Hope that helps.

I had a Greddy Evo2 on my old wrx. I LOVED how it sounded. loud enough to enhance the boxer sound, and be noticeably different from stock, but not noticeable enough to draw unwanted attention.

Since u live in SF, as long as u drive the speed limit and aren't driving crazily, SFPD shouldn't bother u too much. Just watch out for the Colma cops though.
