Tip for rally driving
Don't let a wheel fall off during the stage. Or really at any point, for that matter.
On stage 12 at Rim of the World this weekend we had out left rear wheel come off the car (I later found it about 30 feet away up a hill). The ensuing 6 hour marathon to tow the wounded car out of the stage was something I'd rather not repeat (although with rallying being what it is, I probably will have to at some point).
see all you dirt-mongers up at the rallycross next weekend.

But that's what service crews are supposed to do......
both tightening the lug nuts and especially the retreival.
Bummer about that Neil, sure glad I wasn't riding shotgun this time, (and even more glad I wasn't on your service crew).
I hope you enjoyed the event up until then though

Here's a pic of Neil fighting gravity..

Tip #2: Make sure your car is filled up with gas before heading out.
We finished, but we just had one thing go wrong after another.
Van threw a tread on the way down. Lost fifth gear due to slipping
shifter linkage. Ran out of gas on stage. Driver lost his glasses. Co-driver
(me) made a bone-headed mistake resulting in several penalty minutes.
The tach died halfway through a stage. Rear brake locked up due to
caliper seal failure....the list goes on.
Thanks, Pete, for all the work. I still wanna know what the heck that
"! Watch for traffic. View of flowers on right." checkpoint was about
on the road out Liebre Mtn/Maxwell. We went by there twice in the
rallycar, and once on the way home, and I never did figure out exactly
where that cp was supposed to be.

Actually on a typical RIM weekend those fields would be almost totally orange with Poppies, this year probably both because it's a week later than usual, and a bit drier, there were no poppies at all, and thus no tourists stopped to look at them, we probably should have taken that instruction out on the notice board, hopefully it didn't mess up anybodys transit too much.

in case I forget to mention it later, great routebook, Pete. Melody was able to keep me on the road (mostly) even when the coralba went south (for still undetermined reasons).
