Time to replace cabin filter?

So apparently cabin filters should be replaced every year...

Mine has been in my car for potentially 3 years.

I pulled it out today and it looks like this...

I predict everyone will take out their filter and snap photos of it.

Replacing it take ~ 15min There are couple of guys on Ebay selling replacements for ~$10

Really makes your HVAC work better to have a fresh filter in it

Your car might not even have one...iirc, pre 05 or some year does not have air filters...I've got an 04 and it didn't come with one...

just checked it a few months ago because I read some models didn't have them, and the box where the filter should be was really dusty, ordered one off ebay and it goes right in

Walmart also carries them, cheap to. Has fabreez sent on it as well. They are next to the air filters and oil filters.

That might be a good idea with all of the driving you do, but isn't it a pain to replace in the Legacy?

Replace it and check it often. Problem is the filter jams up with junk and the temp resistor chipset isn't cooled off effectively (good air flow), the chip will burn out! $150 for a 05-07 model and $60 for the 02-04 model. Filters are optional piece that can be inserted into any 02-07 blower box system. Just a rectangular cover that clicks and locks it into place.
