Three Bond 1105 liquid gasket

Hello,

I was hoping to change my '05 STi rear differential fluid this weekend, but didn't realize that I needed Three Bond 1105 until just now. Does anyone happen to know of a place to purchase it locally, or perhaps have a tube to sell?

I've tried the local dealers, but they either tell me that it's not required to change the rear differential fluid, or that it's a special order item that'll take some time to obtain.

Thanks much for any info.

Might want to put where you're located to get a more local place.

it's not needed to change your diff fluid... your unbolt the smaller bolts instead of the big one.

Hmmm ok, that seems consistent with what the dealer's telling me. I checked out the diagram for the differential and see the fill (upper) and drain (lower) bolts on the "pumpkin." Are those the ones you're referring to?

i think you remove the temp sensor and the lower bolt. you fill it thru the temp sensor opening. remember to unplug the wire tho.

biggest thing is to make sure you can REMOVE the FILL plug before you remove the DRAIN plug...

dont know anywhere local to buy it -- i ordered my rear diff fluid from www.subarugenuineparts.com

When you remove/install the temp sensor, make sure you use the larger outer bolt rather than the temp sensor itself -- they're easy to break.

Thanks a lot for all the input! I think I'll play it safe and just order the Three Bond, then change the fluids after. I'll keep what you guys have said in mind. Thanks very much for that.

Huh, interesting. I haven't added the Three Bond when I change my differential fluid and I haven't noticed any leaks, either.

No sealant is needed on the threaded fill & drain plugs.

And make sure you use Subaru LSD oil.

Yep, I picked up a can of Subaru rear LSD oil.

The threaded fill and drain plugs are what come on the '05 Sti, right? Sorry for the ignorance, but just wanted to make sure. Thanks. Given that no one else has had problems when not using the liquid gasket, I figure I may go ahead and give this a shot without it.

FWIW, I did some searching and it appears that 3M T-3 silicone (black) #08670 is a substitute for Three Bond 1105, but naturally I couldn't find that locally, either.
