Thinking about selling the STI--need opinions

I am thinking about selling my STI. There are good reasons for keeping and selling the car which makes the decision harder. I was hoping some members can help me decide.

I will be going to back to school in Europe in the fall of 2011. It's a one year program but I may end up staying there longer if I get a job over there. Most of the stuff is not worth the price of shipping over there.
I will be selling my TV, electronics, and anything else that will depreciate with time. I would like to avoid paying for storage for stuff not worth keeping.

Now the hard question is what do with my car. Its on 06 STI with >90k miles, mostly suspension mods.
Pros of keeping:
+ When I come back I will have a car here (saves time)
+ The car already lost majority of its value
+ Sentimental value
+ I know the maintenance&abuse history on the car since day 1
Pros of selling:
+ KBB is still fairly high for these cars, can recover at least some of the value
+ Once the car has >100k miles, will need to spend more money on maintenance
+ I can always buy a similar car when I return with an option of buying a newer hatch, the next gen impreza, or something else

What do you guys think, sell or keep?

Try selling it imo but market is very saturated for these things right now. Ofcourse if its priced to sell, then you wont have a problem.

if you have a goal and can leave it with family you trust i say keep it. worst case is you sell it when you get back. theres nothing worse then not having something to drive or blowing the cash.

I think it all depends on the sentimental value you place in the car. I think this is an easier question for me since I have an '02 bugeye (reselling is worthless now) and I want to drive my car until it falls apart, plus my parents have a place I could store it and they could drive it every once in a while.

However, with an '06 STi, the value is still there so you'll be losing a lot more through depreciation and storage fees. With the uncertainty of the length ofour stay in Europe, I would say the best call would be to sell it.

I'd sell the thing. Take the cash, and when ya come back with a new degree you might be into something else later on.

sell sell sell

soundwaves plan is perfect. Start up some type of investing in either a super super strong stock or whatver you deem fit, contribute too it over the time as well. uUntil you return, then boom probably get twice the car! Or maybe a home. For me I know having the money from the sti in some type of savings, would make it easy to contribute any money I can earn in the next year too it, and do some real saving.

Sell. Your open ended trip means you should cut as many ties as possible. It's just a car, and you can always get another in the future.

Hope you find a fair deal.

There are only 2 things I think are important and ok to keep in your life:
- family and good friends
- things that are actively making you money/happy

Everything else you should cut when the time calls for it. The STI is one of those things; especially since it doesn't make sense to bring it with you.

Good luck.

I should've turned this into a poll.
So far we have:
7 sell
1 keep it
1 for illegal activites

OP,list your mods in detail you could get more for a stock car in most cases and have some extra money selling the mods.

i agree with nation. selling a stock car is a lot easier than selling a modded one. a lot of parents buy these cars for their kids and stuff and from what i've seen, they walk in the opposite direction of a modded car because of smog worries and reliability worries. i think you would be able to make more money and sell everything a lot faster if you bring it back to stock. good luck with everything though.
