Garages should be secured just like you would your house door.
1)Any external door should be steel, with a steel frame. Put in a top quality dead bolt and lock (stay away from kwikset, worst locks on the market). I have my external door also locked down with a "bar" lock on the inside, with the bar hooks welded to the door frame. I doubt a police "knock knock" could get past it.
2)Main garage doors: If it is a roll up style, use kick pins into the track when you lock up at night. Remember you have to go kick the pins back to the "open" position before you can open the garage. If you have a swing up like I have, they make a kick lock that goes into the cement when closed. The door can not budge when its in the down/lock position.
---A) Do not use chain drive doors, screw type while more $$$ are far stronger and can resist brute force attacks better.
3)Always lock your car up even in the garage

Dude thats just asking for it to be taken.
I must be overly cautious as I am having the house alarm extended out into the garage with a sensor on the door, back door, and motion unit.

That is some Gone in 60 Seconds type S*** to have the car stolen right out of the garage though. That sucks. Yeah, you should just lock your car whenever you leave it. Heck, I lock my doors as soon as I get in the car (tends to **** off my friends, but I don't really care).
